Historia
This novel provides a fascinating look into life in late 14th-century England, the women and men Chaucer loves, the intrigues of the Richardian court, and what compels someone who holds some of the most important jobs in the English bureaucracy to spend his nights writing poetry that is still being read and studied 600 years after his death.

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. Although it is fiction, it seemed to be based on much research and scholarship. One surprise was the seeming commonalities between this medieval society and the one we live in today. Perhaps not quite as violent, but the descriptions of the abuses of power, and corruption felt very familiar. There is more, as this is a long book, well worth reading. Also excellent narration.

Historia
The Peculiar Crimes Unit faces its most baffling case yet - and if Bryant and May can't rise to the challenge, the entire unit may go under. Near the Tower of London, along the River Thames, the body of a woman has been discovered chained to a stone post and left to drown. Curiously, only one set of footprints leads to the tragic spot. "The Bride in the Tide", as the London press gleefully dubs her, has the PCU stumped. Why wouldn't the killer simply dump her body in the river - as so many do?

Re release?
Revisado: 12-15-16
This book says it was released on 12/13/16, but I bought the same book in on 3/31/16. I forgot and ordered it thinking it was a new book, but realized when I started listening that I'd already heard it. Of course I returned it, but what's the story? I feel that this is dishonesty on the part of audible.

Historia
Detective Inspector Siobhan Clarke is feeling the heat. She's investigating the death of a senior government prosecutor, David Minton, who has friends in high places. When one of their own is killed, the powers that be want answers fast. But Clarke is puzzled: If Minton died in a robbery as everyone thinks, why is nothing missing from his home? The answer may lie not in what was taken but in what was left behind at the scene - an ominous note.

Two teenagers see a dead man rising from his grave. And if that's not alarming enough, one of them is killed in a hit and run accident. Soon it seems death is all around and Bryant and May must confront a group of latter-day bodysnatchers. More graves are desecrated, further deaths occur, and when Bryant is blindfolded and taken to a secret society, he realises that this case is more complex than even he had imagined.

I think this is such an excellent series. I relate to the characters, the story moves at the right pace, and the city of Edinburgh comes to life. The narration was perfect. Thanks to Rankin and McPherson (and Audible ) for a very enjoyable experience.

Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. Historia
Selling rare books has its moments, but few are anything close to thrilling - except when Dido Hoare's scoundrel of an ex-husband suddenly reappears and puts a pulse of excitement in the air. But events go from interesting to intense when someone ends up murdered and the culprit seems to think Dido has something worth killing for, too. With the help of her father, Barnabas, a retired academic with a penchant for mysteries, Dido may be able to divert the killer long enough to figure out who wants her dead and why.

Maybe it's me, or a glitch with the download, but this book has no ending, no resolution, no nothing. So I slog my way through, somewhat interested in the mystery and then suddenly it's over, with no real resolution of the mystery! Who did it? I'm tempted to ask for my money back.

I was so excited when I saw that Ian Rankin was resurrecting John Rebus. This one was as good as the previous series which were uniformly excellent. I love the descriptions of Scotland and it's people, the story itself, and the narration was excellent.
