Historia
1985. Anita de Monte, a rising star in the art world, is found dead in New York City; her tragic death is the talk of the town. Until it isn’t. By 1998 Anita’s name has been all but forgotten—certainly by the time Raquel, a third-year art history student is preparing her final thesis. On College Hill, surrounded by privileged students whose futures are already paved out for them, Raquel feels like an outsider. Students of color, like her, are the minority there, and the pressure to work twice as hard for the same opportunities is no secret.

Amateurish and predictable.

I picked this title based on the recommendations by other authors. I’m really shocked that they rated it so highly based on what I just read. Skip this title.

The casting was superb. The story, and sound effects too
Revisado: 01-24-24
This was, without a doubt, the best audible produced podcast I have ever listened to. I can’t think of a single flaw worth noting. Special shout out, goes to the young actor who played Samuel Lapp. I had to look him up to see if he was actually a child. Very precocious.and pitch perfect for the role. Well worth my time. Congratulations on an excellent production.

Revisado: 04-30-22
I can’t recall when I last read a novella with such a ridiculous plot. Had I known I would have a spirit my self 5 hours of incredulity. This Novella would have benefited from a strong editor. Someone to say — what are you kidding?

Historia
Matthew Riker keeps to himself, doesn't cause trouble, and never talks about his past. But after a chance encounter with a woman and a small child on the run, Riker will have to make a choice: use his hard-won skills to protect two innocent victims, or stay in the safety of his quiet life. What follows is an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride that will take Riker on a cross-country chase, through the seedy underbelly of a New York criminal empire, and into the darkest places of the human heart.

Writing is basic. Plot is rudimentary with way too much shootemup for my taste. It feels as if this book was written for teenage boys.

Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

I’ve been cool on this series and returned the previous book in the Gabriel Alon series as unreadable. With The Cellist, Daniel Silva hit his stride again. Very good read!

It could have been a contender
Revisado: 07-11-21
I was 2/3 through the book before I realized this was indeed a mashup between Get Out and the Devil wears Prada. Also throw in some All About Eve.
However unlike these comparisons where the story was cogent at hung together, the logic and structure of this story it was like a dogs breakfast. And the protagonist was the human equivalent of a weak noodles. Ironically, just after finishing the story I went out and bought some hair butter :-)
