Can the FMC find a backbone or some self confidence?!
Revisado: 07-07-24
Never read a book with a more annoyingly insecure FMC. One bad decision after another all based on her insecurity and worrying about what other people thought. Never wanted to shake some sense into someone & tell them buck up & stop being such a insecure shrinking violet. I really hope if this series continues, the author finally shows this irritating, whiney FMC how to grow a backbone.

Abusive MMC and cowardly FMC
Revisado: 04-15-24
While I like the story line, this book should have a trigger warning since the MMC is controlling & verbally abusive and the FMC is such a cowardly mouse you want to shake her and tell her to run. While a little control is sexy- but having to walk on egg shells because she wants to go home for Christmas isn’t sexy- it’s disturbing & a red flag for many women who have ever experienced a controlling, abusive significant other. I hope any woman reading this book sees this as example of a red flag and behavior to avoid in any healthy relationship.

Separated by vast wilderness teeming with monsters and unimaginable dangers, each city is now ruled by a guardian—royalty who feed on mortal pleasure. Born with an intuition that never fails, Calista knows her talents are of great value to the power-hungry of the world, so she lives hidden as a courtesan of the Baron of Archwood. In exchange for his protection, she grants him information. When her intuition leads her to save a traveling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning—and promise.

Gotta be honest, not a big fan
Revisado: 10-22-23
I have read many books by JLA and sadly, this has to be my least favorite. The FMC was a moron and I got soooo sick of her making a stupid decision and needing a man to fix it for her. She was whiney & annoying. The MMC was yummy however we didn’t get enough scenes with him to counteract the FMC’s annoying stupidity. I hope she grows a backbone & some common sense by book 2!

Well written but never wanted to strangle a character more
Revisado: 05-24-20
The book was beautifully written but I have never wanted to slap a character more than Lakshmi’s ungrateful, naive, stupid sister. And Lakshmi’s inability to discipline her out of guilt made me want to tear my hair out. Maybe it was the cultural differences but her patience with the spoiled, sullen 13 year old was mind boggling and I didn’t understand it. Lakshmi’s never ending guilt for leaving an abusive husband to work hard at her own life made her blind to her sister’s selfish manipulative stupidity. Again, I admit my inability to understand this never ending patience with the ignorant 13 year old girl could completely be a difference in culture but I just wanted to shake Lakshmi & put her ungrateful sister out on the street.
