Historia
Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

What a great way to teach history! And not too simplistic either, just the right amount of humor. JERSEY!!!

Is a good supplement
Revisado: 07-10-22
If you're studying Japanese, this is an interesting supplement. It is geared towards general conversational situations, if you're going to study or work in Japan, this might be too "lightweight". Then again, these are the beginner units. I'll go on to the next units (6 to10), we'll see how complicated these lessons can get.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Wow, it made me think of my own biases...
Revisado: 05-21-22
I like to think of myself as an open-minded person, but when the book reached a mormon-based family style, I hesitated to giving the chapter a chance. But after listening to the stories of the 2 women and man, I could understand how it became a choice to them. I still not "throwing a party" about it, but it became more understandable. And that's why I pickup books like this one, to learn about different people, and their creativity and courage to build the lives they envision for themselves.
I definitely recommend this book if you want to learn about what is possible when people decide family is more important than appearances.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Can I move to Denmark?
Revisado: 10-26-20
I didn't like the protagonist at first; she seemed so ethnocentric. Her Dane neighbors didn't seem any better too. Both as her year progressed, I found myself understanding why they were behaving like that, and by the end, I was really glad the family decided to stay in Denmark. I'm not sure I could tolerate the winter there, but I'm glad I got to learn more about the country, and if the Dane can be happy, why can't we in the USA?

Revisado: 09-02-20
It explains a lot about why the Trump's are financially successful, but so disfuncional as human beings. It also explains why Trump is such a successful manipulator, but so easily manipulated by others. Overall, a must read, and God help us if Donald can con himself into a 2nd term as president.

This is the teacher we all wished we had!
Revisado: 05-06-20
Classical music comprehension can get boring very quickly. But not with this teacher, his enthusiasm is so contagious, I stuck around for the whole course, and this is no short course, 40+ chapters? But the material is presented in a way that can be understood by all. I'm glad I listened to the whole thing!
