Historia
Emery Thompson hates Calvin Chamberlain. From the way he acts like he’s better than everyone to the way he moves through the world thinking his podcast is the cream of the crop, every little thing about the man gets to him. Even that dashing, oh-so-confident smile. He’d rather be caught dead than be around the man any longer than necessary—or admit that last part out loud.

10/10
Revisado: 06-01-22
Jack Harbon really did a thing with Crimes of Passion. It’s lighthearted, funny, but also has unexpected depth and tenderness. 10/10 would easily and quickly recommend.

Historia
Dara and Adrien Valliere are soul mates and best friends...but they’re not lovers. Their marriage may be unconventional, but it’s satisfying and loving, and they’ve never needed anything or anyone else. Until they met writer Stacia Leonard. Stacia built a career on maintaining close ties with her fictional characters while keeping everyone else at arm’s length. She avoids intimacy, apart from a few one-night stands. But when Adrien Valliere, her cover model and long-distance friend, invites her for drinks, she’s too fascinated to refuse.

Great story from an author I love!
Revisado: 04-03-19
I’m a huge fan of Holley’s and I’m excited to see her dive back into contemporary romance. This was hot and illustrated each character’s complex emotions that come with being in a nontraditional relationship.

Historia
At forty-five, Hannah Smith is at a crossroads. That's her spin on it. The reality is she's divorced, jobless, and moving back to her family home in Iowa to keep an eye on her mother, who's slipping into dementia. Her return stirs up the same unnerving sense of disconnect Hannah has felt since childhood - always the odd girl out, the loner outshone by her two older sisters. Hannah knew the feelings of hurt would come back. But she never expected fear....

Historia
Set in contemporary Louisville, Leesa Cross-Smith's mesmerizing first novel surrounding the death of a police officer is a requiem for marriage, friendship, and family, from an author Roxane Gay has called "a consummate storyteller". Evi - a classically-trained ballerina - was nine months pregnant when her husband Eamon was killed in the line of duty on a steamy morning in July. Now, it is winter, and Eamon's adopted brother Dalton has moved in to help her raise six-month-old Noah.

I loved every moment of Dalton and Evangeline finding their love through grief. Brilliantly written.

Historia
With a sensibility that recalls her beloved screen characters, including Yvette, Queenie, Shug, and the iconic Cookie from Empire, yet is all Taraji, the screen actress writes of her families - the one she was born into and the one she created. She shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet who was bowed but never broken by life's challenges, and of her mother, who survived violence both in the home and on DC's volatile streets. Here, too, she opens up about her experiences as a single mother.

Authentic
Revisado: 12-06-16
Everywhere there are messages, proclamations, and admonishments to "be your authentic self." As a black woman, this is difficult to do without being stereotyped as angry or bitter so it's uplifting to see that Taraji is successful in spite of the way she was received by society. This was a very enjoyable read! I highly recommend it!
