Historia
In one of the most acclaimed novels of recent years, Kazuo Ishiguro imagines the lives of a group of students growing up in a darkly skewed version of contemporary England. Narrated by Kathy, now thirty-one, Never Let Me Go dramatizes her attempts to come to terms with her childhood at the seemingly idyllic Hailsham School and with the fate that has always awaited her and her closest friends in the wider world.

A tame and, at times, tiring listen
Revisado: 06-06-24
Unfortunately I’d read the first line of a review that mentioned this book was science fiction and thus spent the whole book waiting for some big, game-changing reveal. This is not that kind of book. Narrator’s upper-class voice grated too at times, although that was perhaps deliberate…

Historia
His name was Antonio, but they would call him Nem. From the infamous favela of Rocinha in Rio, he was a hardworking young father forced to make a decision that would turn his world upside down. Nemesis is the story of an ordinary man who became the king of the largest slum in Rio, the head of a drug cartel and perhaps Brazil’s most wanted criminal. A man who tried to bring welfare and justice to a playground of gang culture and destitution while everyone around him drew guns and partied.

Great journalism and gripping story
Revisado: 05-21-24
Thoroughly enjoyed this excellent and well-researched book. Didn’t know anything about Nem, but having lived in Brazil was already familiar with a lot of the intricacies of society. Really insightful and well-balanced book that doesn’t glorify banditos, but does show how easy it is for people to get stuck in a difficult situation. My only criticism (and it’s minor) would be the narrator’s use of London accents when narrating dialogue. Every time I heard it, it jarred with me.

Historia
Andrea Pirlo is one of the finest footballers of his generation - a World Cup and Champions League winning playmaker who has redefined his position at the base of midfield, and one of the most deadly free-kick takers the game has known. This is his story, in his words. It is written with a level of humour and insight which confound his image as a dead-eyed assassin on the field of play.

Easy to listen to and paints nice picture of a footballing aristocrat. Even if it is at times difficult to imagine Pirlo using some of the turns of phrase. Some interesting insights into his football career: Juve, Milan, Istanbu, World Cup, etc. Those looking to learn about Pirlo the man however may be disappointed as nothing about family, childhood etc.

Historia
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

Great performance of a modern classic. After a few hours listening to stories of the Chief, McMurphy and the rest of the gang, it’s easy to imagine yourself in the ward among them. Highly enjoyable.

Historia
In 1984, at the age of 20, Duff McKagan left his native Seattle - partly to pursue music, but mainly to get away from a host of heroin overdoses then-decimating his closest group of friends in the local punk scene. In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash." Soon after, the most dangerous band in the world was born. Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than 100 million albums worldwide.

Guns N Rehabilitation
Revisado: 05-22-23
Thoroughly enjoyable autobiography with plenty information for the casual Guns’n’Roses fan. Performance is good too, with accents etc. Only minor gripe is that narrator doesn’t provide any hint in his tone of voice when each chapter is about to end. It - like this review - just ends.

Historia
The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

Five Stars But Deserves Even More!
Revisado: 10-07-22
An absolutely phenomenal audiobook. Exceptional research and reportage that really stoked my interest in a subject matter that I previously had very little knowledge. I genuinely didn’t want it to end. The narrator is superb also, bringing an authoritative yet thoroughly enjoyable voice. Impossible to recommend Beyond highly enough. Ten stars.
