Historia
They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, to give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened. Everything the girls eat, every moment of their waking day, and everything they’re allowed to talk about is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them.

Ok story, hideous narration.
Revisado: 04-20-25
The main narrator made it impossible to enjoy this story. 1. She should skip the emoting, it's terrible. The near tears and breathless anxiety were embarrassing rather than convincing. 2. Chapter 19 made me want to gouge my ears out, I cannot overstate how painful that chanting was. I do not recommend the audible version, read it instead.

Historia
My dog once took a bullet that was intended for me. A bullet that ripped through his chest, narrowly missing his heart, and exited through his shoulder blade. This left him unconscious on the floor of my home. Amazingly, this bullet did not kill him. Ten years ago, I adopted Blue after I broke up with my boyfriend one hot, early summer night with the windows open and the neighborhood listening. The next morning I went straight to the pound in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Articles on buying your first dog tell you never to buy a dog on impulse.

The author must not really like animals
Revisado: 01-09-25
First of all, I think it's hilarious that so many reviewers are whining about the languag, drinking and sex, lighten up ffs.
That being said this really wasn't very good. I've only listened to the first book and could barely get through. The narrator was pretty terrible, particularly when doing male voices and accents, pretty cringe. Also, the main character was seriously unlikeable. Finally, I hated the way she dealt with animals, hated the way the whole story did actually. Leaving her dog, that she just got from a cramped cage at the pound alone all day, leaving "snaffles" somewhere he wasn't safe, and that poor cat- cats need to be checked on more than every three days. And who in their right mind would leave an animal alone in a house when their owner was missing.

Historia
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

Over the top but worth a listen
Revisado: 12-05-22
There are VERY few Black voices in this genre so I was glad to see this come out. Yes, it's over the top but the issues raised are very real.
One pet peeve- the author didn't do her research re. firearms- it's a magazine, not a clip, and Glocks do not have external safeties.

Historia
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Probably better to read this one
Revisado: 12-26-21
The story was entertaining enough. The characters were much more likeable than some of the characters in her other novels.
The narration was terrible. If Ms. Lee were only using her own voice and attempting UK accents I would have given a four star review. Unfortunately, Ms. Lee is like many non-American narrators in that her attempts are truly awful. In particular, her rendition of Velma and Harriet were absolutely cringeworthy- harsh, nasal, whiny, unnatural- so bad. I have never heard anyone in real life sound like these characters. The story has mostly American characters, it should have an American narrator.

Find a narrator who speaks French!
Revisado: 12-10-21
Or at least someone who can pull off the accent. I enjoyed the story, but I had to switch to Kindle, the narrators French accent was absolutely cringe inducing. I get they may not be able to afford Jefferson Mays, but come on, there has to be a female narrator somewhere who can do accents well. This narrator is fine when she's using her own voice, but her accents are the worst. She sounded like a worse version of Pepé Le Pew!

Narrator makes it difficult to enjoy
Revisado: 09-05-21
Narration:I don't mind this narrators voice but her attempts at accents are some of the worst ever, downright cringey.
And, seriously, learn how to say place names correctly. WillAMEtte, not WILL-a-met, Rogue not Rouge etc. Does no one edit these things!? If a narrator isn't from the PNW, perhaps she could google how to pronounce its many indigenous place names,
Story: I keep reading them because even though they are highly implausible, they are entertaining.

Revisado: 07-21-21
The story was marginal, a cool premise but only two- dimensional. The narrator was incredibly cringe-worthy...the Benjamin and Jacqueline voices... so bad, and she makes a caricature of Mexican American characters. Definitely no.
