Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Bad production quality
Revisado: 06-24-18
The audio on this recording is extremely difficult to listen to. I don't know if it's just the way the narrator performs, but someone should have balanced the audio much better. Some sentences are so quiet I have to turn up the volume, but then suddenly it's so loud it hurts my ears and I have to turn it back down. It was so intolerable that I gave up. Months later I went back and finished the book on fast speed (I wanted to finish the book but truly hate this recording) and just accepted that at a moderate volume I would miss the quieter sentences. I recommend this book for its subject matter, but I would just read it on paper or find a different recording.

Historia
John Milton's Paradise Lost is one of the greatest epic poems in the English language. It tells the story of the Fall of Man, a tale of immense drama and excitement, of rebellion and treachery, of innocence pitted against corruption, in which God and Satan fight a bitter battle for control of mankind's destiny.

Worthwhile purchase
Revisado: 06-14-17
If you're interested in Paradise Lost, then you should already know what you're in for. It's not the most riveting story in the world. This performance doesn't do much to help that; the voice is monotone and may put you to sleep. But I found the voice clear and easy to understand (because it emphasizes all the right parts in Milton's convoluted syntax, it's easier to follow than reading in print). And the audiobook was a good recording -- no weird volume changes and a steady pace. Overall I'd say it was a good purchase and I'd buy it again.

Historia
Things have never been easy for Oscar, a sweet but disastrously overweight, lovesick Dominican ghetto nerd. From his home in New Jersey, where he lives with his old-world mother and rebellious sister, Oscar dreams of becoming the Dominican J. R. R. Tolkien and, most of all, of finding love. But he may never get what he wants, thanks to the Fuku: the curse that has haunted Oscar's family for generations, dooming them to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-starred love. Oscar, still waiting for his first kiss, is just its most recent victim.

Wonderful book, with a great performance
Revisado: 06-04-17
This is a great book that follows the story of a family over multiple generations. It illuminates the private lives of the family members alongside the social and political backdrops of the Dominican Republic under dictatorship and New Jersey in the 70s-90s, and I'd recommend it to everyone. It's funny, heart wrenching, and beautiful. Besides the story, the performance itself is worth the listen. The primary narrator does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. The only thing is, if you don't speak Spanish it's a little complicated to listen to; there is a lot of Spanish and Spanish slang mixed in. You can find super helpful translations online if you search for annotated Oscar Wao. I kept referring to those while listening and it worked out very well, but it meant I couldn't listen in the car or anytime I didn't have the internet handy. Still worth it and I'm glad I listened to the audio instead of reading it in print.
