Historia
On a warm March night in 2083, Judy Wallach-Stevens wakes to a warning of unknown pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay. She heads out to check what she expects to be a false alarm—and stumbles upon the first alien visitors to Earth. These aliens have crossed the galaxy to save humanity, convinced that the people of Earth must leave their ecologically-ravaged planet behind and join them among the stars. And if humanity doesn't agree, they may need to be saved by force. But the watershed networks that rose up to save the planet from corporate devastation aren't ready to give up on Earth.

Got boring, plot disappeared quickly
Revisado: 02-21-24
I wanted to like this book because I like kind sci-fi, but a few chapters in, it became more about gender dynamics than about the encounter/rescue plot. Eventually got bored trying to hold the plot thread with so many characters and not much happening, and I gave up. I’m all for gender progressive books but I need an exciting plot to be the priority.

Historia
Violette Toussaint is the caretaker at a cemetery in a small town in Bourgogne. Casual mourners, regular visitors, and sundry colleagues - gravediggers, groundskeepers, and a priest - visit her to warm themselves in her lodge, where laughter, companionship, and occasional tears mix with the coffee she offers them. Her life is lived to the rhythms of their funny, moving confidences. But her routine is disrupted by the arrival of the local police chief, who insists on scattering the ashes of his recently deceased mother on the gravesite of a complete stranger.

A slog to finish
Revisado: 03-27-23
The story was boring and bounced around in time a lot, making it annoying as an audiobook. It would have been a decent book if it were half as long. The narrator wasn’t bad, she was just the wrong choice for this book (not an older voice with a solid French language background).

Too dark and gothic
Revisado: 03-09-23
It’s a very good story. But it’s super dark and Gothic and full of people just being awful to each other. If that’s not your vibe, then this is not for you. The narrator is fantastic.

In her new memoir, No Walls and the Recurring Dream, Ani DiFranco recounts her early life from a place of hard-won wisdom, combining personal expression, the power of music, feminism, political activism, storytelling, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and much more into an inspiring whole. In these frank, honest, passionate, and often funny stories is the tale of one woman's eventful and radical journey to the age of 30.

A remarkable person
Revisado: 02-23-23
Her music has moved me for all of my adult life. The eras of her life bleed into her music and give me a card catalogue of songs constructed for my needs in any given moment. This memoir explains where this goddess came from and offers some good life lessons on the way. I look forward to the sequel.

Just not a great story
Revisado: 01-11-23
I didn’t really get into the characters. I didn’t really like them that much and the story was just OK. It was over complicated with a lot of characters. I wasn’t that interested in the mystery. I’m surprised us has such great reviews.

Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Delightful and relaxing listen
Revisado: 12-21-22
Nice characters and a plot that was entertaining enough to keep my attention. The main character is quirky and funny. An okay murder mystery. I stop many books early on out of boredom or not liking the main characters. I don’t like when most of the characters are awful humans. This wasn’t like that.
