This book is good for 1 thing: affirmations. If you want affirmations, then this will help you. The "hypnosis" sessions are actually just the affirmation audio files layed over each other, some reversed, and played over the sound of ocean waves on a beach. Not really a hypnosis session at all.

There are 3 audio files of affirmations, about an hour long each and 5 "hypnosis" sessions about an hour each. If that's what you were looking for going into this, it's great, but not quite as its built to be in the description.

As with the others, this was great. I appreciate the author didn't throw in the unnecessary love scene business in this novel, but I feel like the author forgot a thing or two about writing a murder mystery novel. the ending seems to come out of nowhere a bit and the culprit has to give us an elaborate explanation to piece it all together. As the readers, we should have done most of the piecing ourselves and when it comes to the end, we are just waiting for the confession.

A little more sex than I was expecting, and Peter seemed really naive for a cop, but still very good story nonetheless. It felt like Ben was finally starting lock in the longer story.

Story feels a little like Dresden Files in London, but very well done. Narrator was an excellent choice, felt very authentic to the character. Wish he'd slowed down a little, but otherwise, it was a great listen

The book spends a whole lot of time showing examples of unwanted, intrusive thoughts, and then does 1 chapter on how to deal with them. Then follows up with recrovery. It felt like if you're suffering from the thoughts, someone is going to tell you what's happening anyway. At least the narration was good.

The story seemed rushed at points, probably because it was based on a comic series, but the biggest problem I had was the scratchiness at some points. The other problem was that some of the sound editing or music made it impossible to hear some parts.

Other than that, it was enjoyable.

Stephen King apparently added 600 pages to the story, but I honestly think it probably could have done without them. there are a few points where I wondered if a portion of the story was necessary and then, it doesn't come up again, so obviously not.

Overall, though, it's a pretty good story, better than some others. I can see that it is obviously the template many post-apocalyptic stories use, which is a point its favor.

The voice actor is pretty good, but its clear that the task MAY have been a bit too large, and basically anyone in the story that is from the midwest or the south sounds the same. Otherwise, I thought he did a pretty good job.

It may not be a perfect retelling of the Norse myths, but Gaiman's twist brings the characters to life, makes them relatable, and does a good job of making easy for the laymen to remember the tales.

Meandering Apocalypse Love Story

While I knew that Nora Roberts is a romance writer, I thought this was an attempt to step out of her element and write something Sci-Fi/Supernatural. I was mistaken. I'm not sure if she lost the story notes halfway through writing, or if her Editor decided it needed more spice, but what started as a decent apocalypse tale turned into a book with undeveloped and forgettable characters, some of whom seem to get over trauma far too quickly to be believable.

In all honesty, the book starts off pretty strong, but somewhere about the middle, the book forgot that it was a doomsday novel and became "Swiss Family Robinson meets Faeries." I actually might have enjoyed that book better than this one, because at least in that one I wouldn't have to listen to awkward teenage-level flirtations, some of which don't even make sense. At least all the female characters appear to much better at seduction than the men.

Anyway, the biggest problem of the novel is that once it got passed that halfway mark, it completely lost the plot. There's no more build and tension, no more progression, just people walking around falling in love and talking about survival. Talking, mind you, as they keep finding supplies whenever they get low (not really a spoiler). I guess you can worry about whether or not the guy in your caravan likes you or not when you apparently don't really have to worry about whether or not you are going to be eating that day.

If you are wanting to find a survival story, there are a whole lot more. If you want to read about people making babies while the world dies, then I guess you should get this one.

Another expert novel from Gaiman

At first I thought the choice of narrator was a mistake as Gaiman often reads his own works, but this was masterfully done. The author lives up to the Gaiman standard and makes the work enjoyable.
