Historia
Earth was invaded. Earth was conquered. And humanity was summarily subjugated, as 400,000,000 people were culled. The terrifying part was this only took the Peacekeepers a second. There wasn't even a chance for us to fight back. In the blink of an eye, questions like whether or not we're alone in the universe or at the top of the food chain were answered. We were not. Not by a long shot. Despite the mass murder, the Peacekeepers promise they're benevolent. They don't want to rule Earth. They don't want to control humanity. They just want us to stop playing around with AI and genetics.

Harry Potter has a gun..
Revisado: 02-24-25
Not a fan of this one. The Mc is always annoyed, and quick to anger. He never thinks through his actions and does nothing to stem his bad behavior and actions. Also, he is a bit of a dummy, and constantly getting himself captured or flanked by his enemies. The main problem is the MCs penchant for killing people. The author consistently tries to justify his muderhoboness by giving us several scenes of gangs acting hilariously evil and committing heinous acts. It gets really tired and drags the entire story. The biggest sin is that the MC is extremely unlikable. Listening to him lose his cool for 14 hrs and rage out at most of the characters in this story made this a slog to get through. If you want something edgy with a bit of apocalypse, lit rpg, urban fantasy, and grimdark themes you'll probably get something from this. Otherwise, keep scrolling.

Pretty good
Revisado: 02-23-25
Great start, slow middle, okay end. I can tell the author has a good grasp for the fantastic, but a bit too much love for his characters. The story is pretty straightforward. This will work for 95% of people who just wants a good adventure with some baddies, tough situations, and good character growth. I was not a fan of the relationships, they seemed too quick and deep for how little time occurred in the novel. It's mainly a personal preference, and doesn't really affect the nature of the story.

Worst Sanderson series
Revisado: 02-07-25
Wow, I did not think the guy who wrote Elantris, Warbreaker, Mistborn, and the stormlight archive could come up with something this bad! This series came out when everyone was into marvel and the biggest sellers in fantasy fiction were grimdark urban fantasies. This is a apocalyptic grimdark urban fantasy for Christians. With all that said, this book is awful. The MC is unbelievable, annoying, and an awful waste of a character. He's a ruthless killer, but he's also a super cool guy. He assassinates Epics, who he knows are victims basically under mind control, and then makes quips about it right afterwards. He's obsessed with saving his personal hero and father figure Prof, an Epic who has fallen to the corruption, and with that condemning thousands of innocents to his despotic rule and cruelty. This obsession to "turn" prof back to the light, and his continued "faith" in the coming of the real hero's reeks of subliminal Christian dogma. All we need is a dragon and an allegory Jesus lion and we got a modern English classic. I'm joking, but this was a pretty bad book and Sanderson attempt at a comic book world. He's written recently some great young adult comic-esc series, so just ignore this one outright and don't waste your credits on this mess.

Satisfying ending to a tense trilogy
Revisado: 02-01-25
It's been a while since I've read and listened to a clearly planned and executed trilogy that leaves no stones unturned and gloriously completes complex characters arcs with complete finality. I haven't been this satisfied since the end of the wheel of time series. Grab all 3 books and audiobooks if you can, and enjoy a fun quest for the heroes of destiny.

Historia
Brian Fieldings just buried his dad and lost the only job he's ever had. Waking up in an unfamiliar, pitch-black room the next morning feels a lot like the rotten cherry on a particularly awful sundae. Especially given the inhuman howling coming from the other side of the door. He's only been conscious for a minute or so, but Brian already has questions. Where is he and how did he get here? What is making those terrible noises? And why does the room he's in have an altar?

Pretty good. I like the system, it's less rewarding than most typical lit RPGs but it's D&D type classes and techniques and races ground the game like setting. My only problem is the MC and his lizard priest companion can be a bit too nice. It's understandable after what happens halfway through the first half, but I've never been a fan of humility. Especially when there are people who can crush stone with their fists. This is a slow burn, and the Mc is a bit of a bumbling mess, but his growth by the end of the story makes future tales with him seem more tolerable.

Historia
There are whole anthologies of stories out there about what humankind does when a game enters their world. But what about when they're living in one where a game arrived thousands of years before? What if they're the survivors of a bloody struggle, having fought for and earned their place on the planet? Tailyn Vlashich was a young nobody far away from all those grander issues. All he cared about was one thing: making his way through a harsh world where the emperor, evil foes, and an impartial god held sway.

Everyone is a Jerk
Revisado: 01-20-25
I just can't. The MC is an innocent child who is constantly in danger and expected to do actions most adults couldn't accomplish. Everyone sucks, and everyone is a selfish self serving individual. If you've ever read any story with a "Sect" in it, then you understand. There are no sects, but everyone is so entitled and scheming that I just couldn't finish. Also the MC is a 10 year old kid the whole time, it's infuriating.

Enemies emerge everywhere. Stagnation starts seeming standard. Results require Ruthlessness. Joe has been moving deeper into his study of ritual magic and further away from his combat team. He's learning more and more, but more often than not needs to choose between his research and squad leadership. Improving the town is a huge help to the guild, and they have been pushing to increase their power. Their rapid increases have not gone unnoticed. The guild receives an ultimatum, delivered by assassins and signed with blood.

So long, and thanks for all the rituals!
Revisado: 01-10-25
Yeah, this is pretty fun. I kinda wish the MC would focus on his priority of getting good, but he seems to be pulled in 15 directions at once. It still rounds out evenly at the end for a mostly cohesive story, but it seems that the focus of the story is more on our wacky MC than his burgeoning cast. That works for the most part, as the author gets that the appeal of a lit RPG is the constant feeling of advancement. There is a bit less adventuring due to the profession of the MC, but it is still entertaining to learn the lore and logic of the MCs new home.

The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Becoming a permanent addition to a game world, it doesn't take long to learn that people with his abilities are actively hunted. In fact, if the wrong people gained knowledge of what he was capable of, assassins would appear in droves.

VR ritualist the audiobook
Revisado: 01-07-25
A bit of a flow as you go type of audiobook. This is a VR/possibly alternate universe type of adventure where the goal is basically to get good. If you're looking for plot, then look elsewhere. There is a general roadmap, but it is basically a series of quests and ability exploration. The characters are not that deep, but it's not that serious. It's enjoyable for what it is, definitely recommend for those looking for something not too serious.

Dry comedy with a lot of interesting ideas
Revisado: 01-05-25
This is basically a direct continuation of the previous audiobook. The MC Steele is a bit of a loose canon with a knack for getting into trouble. The background theme of robotic rights, imperialism, and immigration mixes together well to make the self destructive antics of the MC bearable. If you're looking for a conclusion or any type of growth from our main cast then your listening to the wrong book. However there is enough mysteries, wacky situations, and dark comedic moments to hold you over until the next episode.
