My first "read" of The Invisible Man (or any Wells, for that matter) and by that I mean I literally moved from reading the text to listening to this audiobook. I found James Adams to be a little off on some of his "invisible man" dialog, especially later in the story. I don't want to give spoilers but I read a different tone in his voice than Adams' interpretation. I also thought his range of voices wasn't that great. Overall, it still was very much worthy of a recommendation but I wonder if there's a better version out there.

The story was thrilling and fun. Looking forward to more HGW!

Among the very best Audible performance that I’ve heard yet.

While I admit to having never read the text, I nevertheless can’t possibly imagine being as emotionally riveted and affected by the story as I was by Richard Armitage’s Audible interpretation. The voices, and the nuanced intensity of his Dr. Jekyll, were striking. I'm not sure that it could be done better.

I won't say much about the story since no one will read it based solely on my review (or will they??). I purchased a copy of the 2nd printing from eBay after seeing it recommended as one of the top reads related to sociopathic behavior. After getting about 1/3/ of the way through reading, I decided to use a credit on the Audible to listen to when reading wasn't an option.

The narrator, Chris Andrew Ciulla, is excellent at giving voice to the characters. He found what I think are the proper characterizations for Sammy etc. A highly recommended Audible purchase.

First, let me just say, Audible/Amazon needs to switch the third star to a "Good" rating from "Pretty good". I mean, you have "Okay" to "Pretty Good" to "Great"?? Hey, I know most reviews come in either one or five star ratings, but there are still a few of us who still live in the land of Nuance. :^)

Anyway (phew!)... so yeah, it was good.

I mean that I listened to the whole 8-1/2 hours, wasn't bored, had some chuckles (and eyerolls) and have no regrets for buying it. I thought Frank Lazarus was 5 stars perfect as Chico, while Mike Roberts was 2.5 stars ("pretty good") as Groucho. His was a decent impression but his over the top performance just grew annoying by the end. The shows were pretty fun and, like I said, good for the occasional chuckle, though quite a few of the jokes came from their early movie scripts. A luke warm recommendation.

I gave 5 stars for "61 Points of Light but this one wasn't quite as effective for me. The idea of imagery was good but how it was used here didn't. I'm not sure I can blame Ms Siani entirely. Maybe it's just a matter of personal preference.

Also a note about the recording: at first, I played it slightly above normal volume (about 7 of 10) and I could hear slight studio reverberation (like she's in a large hall) in her voice. It wasn't awful but it was enough to require I turn it down to about 3 or 4 where it didn't bother me as much.

You really do get so much enjoyment from the Stephen Fry performances of the stories. In fact, this audible book was often preferable to reading the stories, especially when I needed to rest my eyes. His vocal interpretations of characters, including an impressive skill of accents (Irish, American, German, and Liverpudlian, to name a few) made the readings feel more like dramatic performances for radio. My only regret there is that I want him to read every other Holmes story I read, including all of the non-Conan Doyle stories.*

My only real complaint, and one so small that I might knock a 1/4 of a star from the performance for, was that Fry missed on occasion what I felt were the correct interpretations and intonations of dialogue as intended by Conan Doyle. For example, Holmes might make a sarcastic remark to Watson that Fry would make sound sincere or worse, urgent. I don't have a specific example to present: only the occasional observation during those times that I'd replay something that I'd read or vice-versa.

*Checked out an audiobook version of Nicholas Meyer's "The Seven Percent Solution" from the library, and David Case's vocal interpretations of Holmes and Watson fell somewhere between irritating and laughable.
