I mean, The Land's sound effects were balanced and won't cause your ears to ring.

This ain't a "Going to go to sleep with a book in my ear" kind of sound effects. It's a LOUD A$SED DING! Didn't anyone listen to this book with Airbuds in and go "Hey, That Ding is Too GD Loud!!!"??

I know this review might put Kong back in a 5 year nuttin' gonna happen funk, bud MAN! Come On! I couldn't even concentrate on the narrative due to cussing out the ding!

1 Star Performance. I'm guess 5 Star Story. But overall, 2

Really Enjoyed this Trilogy

Since Mr. Kong introduced me to LitRPG's, I've been hooked. This one, while not a blockbuster, was very much worth the Credit and listen.

Plenty of Action, Romance (Not Graphic, but a love story) and plots.

I'd love to see more of this world.

Timeline wise, listen to this NO EARLIER than book 4 of the main Viridian Gate Online series. Can be before or after the first 2 Firebrand books.

Story filled in a lot.

Narrator: Awesome voice, but ZERO Story Telling abilities. NO Inflections in the right places. Just sounds like an AM Radio anchorman reading the news on and on... Sorry Matthew, but ya might stick with Biographies or something that doesn't require a STORY TELLER's narration skills.

Ready Player One meets Life Reset novels

First part of book was reminding us of Ready Player One plus add even more 80's drops.
Second part of book could have been 1 chapter. Pop some more 80's drops.
Third part of book could have been 1 chapter. Pop some more 80's drops.
Fourth part... ok now we're moving...a little quickly.
Ending. Really? REALLY? Well that was convenient.

Won't return it though... I might need a good non-stop 80's reference audiobook. (Even though I lived through it as pretty much same age as James Halliday having pretty much every computer he did. Except I started with Color Computer 1 :)

Changed my Review...and upped to 5 stars!

After going through the entire series again, this book, while contains a lot in such a short time, may get your hackles up because of the fact. Yeah, the infamous chapter, is actually funnier the second time around. I guess my stress over a low rating before was because of impatience and... well, I don't want to spoil anything.

There ARE quite a few things in this book that you will need to understand before going on. So, listen... let the prompts wash over you... listen again... better understand.

I am sorry Aleron, for the lack luster review I gave before.

Story Great, Performance Great, Audio Edits suck!

The edit's in this audio book can knock you right out of the being engrossed by the story to wonder why the edit was done with different settings or even different equipment. I'm sure there's a reason for edits much later instead of immediate.

I almost didn't finish the story to return it, but Arwan said not to. So finished and waiting for next book :)

So the 3 stars on performance, technically isn't for Tim Gerard Reynolds performance as he's always great. But editing.

WHY AM I JUST FINDING OUT ABOUT THESE?!?!?!?

I am, admittedly, a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Role play Gamer) and a Raider of the most epic dungeons since 1999 with EverQuest, EverQuest 2 since their beginnings. (Also, Star Wars Galaxies, Rift, Archeage, City of Heroes) currently on Final Fantasy XIV, and this book is pretty SPOT ON on ability learning, leveling, questing etc.

When I first listened to the SAMPLE provided, I thought it was going to be a book of a guy sitting in his chair Role playing a MMORPG and looked for other books to listen to. Boy was I WRONG!

Reminds me a tad (just a tad) of Terry Brook's 'Magic Kingdom for Sale', where a guy gets sucked into a Fantasy Land from his modern earth setting.

I'm currently on Book 4. THIS SERIES DOES NOT DISAPPOINT (If you're into leveling, grinding, magic stat items, looting, questing, grouping, raiding dungeons, buffing, debuffing etc...). Where everything you do CAN affect your course in your new life!

If you are into any of the RPG type games, LISTEN TO THIS SERIES!!! You will laugh! You will cringe! You will cheer!

Great Sound effects, such as the Leveling Gong, Quest Chime and other notices, you'd normally see on screen, but in this book, you have, sort of, an internal HUD in your vision.

Just listen to it! And use your 6 other credits on the following books!!!

The Narration is PERFECT! I couldn't see how anyone could 'READ' this book and do what this guy does, in your head.

So, DON'T let the SAMPLE fool you into thinking one thing, it totally changes just after that sample!

And... EXCLAMATION POINT!

Movie -vs- Book? TIE! Both Different but awesome

I listened to half the book before seeing the movie in theaters. First, I was "This isn't right... just the names are the same". But I really enjoyed the movie, even though, being the geek I am, was not plausible in the mechanics of VR. Again, I DID enjoy the movie.

That got me back on the book. (Took a detour for addition of Lusam series and another series).

The book was VERY plausible and, of course, a 180 from the movie. I am 50, as of a few days ago, and I COULD have been James Halliday, as I've had almost every experience he had... except fore throught and focus to complete a few of my games. I had almost every computer and game system he did. I am totally hooked on my favorite 80's movies and music. My first computer was a Color Computer 1 though... with 4K RAM. So I had it a little harder than James Halliday.

Anyway, if you've seen the movie... ALSO READ THE BOOK! as it's a totally different ride with totally different key quests!

NOPE! PLEASE Listen to the DEMO. It sounds as if he is either 'AutoTuned' or is an Artificial voice. You can almost write sheet music to his voice and include a Repeat bar for every paragraph.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The price was low enough that I don't feel cheated. I may listen to it in the future with no other book available. Or I'm in a Coma and my family puts it on for me.

I'll probably READ the ebook myself.
