Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

It went over the top
Revisado: 01-03-25
We are usually big fans of David Baldacci books, and while the basic premise of this book was interesting, and the main protagonist was as well, the storyline went too far with twists and turns to the point that it got annoying. Husband and I listen together during car rides, both avid readers and both felt the same way. I agree with some others that Zachary was a very good reader while the women were on the ok range. I am not sure if we will follow this series the way we have followed all the others. This just seemed way beyond the usual Baldacci work.

Historia
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

Loved the book, not hapy with the production
Revisado: 06-15-24
This was a bookclub book, and many of us, myself included, found it very slow for the first 1/4 of the story. But stick with it as it becomes a lovely story of people learning about themselves and others. I also learned many thing about nature and other subjects, which I do enjoy.
Tha narrator was very good. And I felt the ending gave you enough information without spoonfeeding you every detail of their future.
I was not sure how to rate it, however, as the part I did not like were the loud and long birdsongs between every chapter ( and the other member who does audiobooks felt the same). Sure, do that at the opening and closing, but not necessary to do this every chapter. I hope the director sees this.

One bride is set on including a Native American herbal purification ceremony while another wants live peacocks on the lawn. But when an offensive newcomer, who hints at skeletons in the guests' closets, is found dead under suspicious circumstances, level-headed Meg's to-do list extends from flower arrangements and bridal registries to catching a killer - before the next event is her own funeral.

way too silly
Revisado: 02-23-24
I like like mysteries,, but this one was just over the top silly. I thought the basic mystery was pretty good, so I finished it, and had already downloaded book #2, but I will not go beyond. The narrator wasn't the best, but she didn't bother me as much as all the ridiculous things the protagonist, Meg, was expected to be doing. There are many other light mysteries out there so much better... The Constable Evans series, INspector Montolbano series, The Liz Talbot Series. UNless you really like fluff, try one of the others.

Audio is the way to go
Revisado: 10-23-23
I cannot imagine reading this book... the audio must add so much to the story. Well narrated and sound effects add so much.
I don't usually listen to science fiction, but this book was so well rated. It kept me wanting to get back and listen more. There was a period about 2/3 way through that I think dragged on longer than needed, but other than that it was an easy, interesting, thought-provoking listen.
Don't let the science fiction category turn you off. It was more of a mystery and human interest story overall.

Glad it was on sale.
Revisado: 05-10-23
I bought this book because it was on sale and a Lisa Jewell book. I enjoyed the previous three, but this one not very much. I had to urge myself to finish it, and although the last hour was interesting, not great, but interesting...the rest was just rather boring. I really did not like most of the characters nor care about them. The narrator was ok. I think it would have been better with both a male and female narrator as Helen Duff had too many people to voice. Don't know what else to say other than I think there are many other books waiting to be heard.

would give it 4.5 if I could
Revisado: 03-28-23
This story captivated me, but the ending made me give less than a perfect 5. I thought the mystery within a mystery was an unusual format..and the quest Amy goes on was excellent. She learned about life, herself, her self worth...while following a quest laid out before her for more answers. I am trying not to give away the plot, so I know this is vague. The narrator was excellent...but the ending, for some reason, left me a bit frustrated. That said, I think it is a worth while listen, mystery and some light romance.

Could have been good...but missed the mark
Revisado: 01-29-23
I almost stopped listening due to the female reader. Got used to her after a while. This could have been a good detective book. The detective part of the story was pretty well thought out and executed. But the "humor" was mostly too silly to fit in with the graphic murder scenes. They just were distracting. The editors that list this as a "laugh out loud humor" were way off the mark. I can see why some people were turned off by the rather graphic murders if they thought this would be a light, Stephanie plumb style book. I just think the two sides ( humor vs serious)were too far apart for either of them to work correctly. I doubt I will listen to any more of this series.

Not worth the time
Revisado: 12-30-22
I don't think I have ever rated a book this low. I really wanted to stop about an hour in, but made myself finish to see if what I was thinking was explained. A bit was, but mostly the author just did not do her homework. Someone in a Coma for 6 weeks does not wake up and two days later be able to go home walking. 2 days after that she was able to do stairs! And this was just one of the glaring errors that distracted me. And I do not mind books that contain sexual content, but her scenes were written in a crude way that does not coincide with the rest of the book. Was it done just for the shock factor or because she thought it would sell more? It did nothing to improve the book. I got this book because of the star ratings, but I think it is deceiving.

On a stifling summer day, an old Chevy Impala ignored the warning signals and was annihilated by the oncoming train. What no one realized until much later was that the driver had paused just before entering the tracks and kicked a small boy out of the car. A small boy with broken glasses who is clutching a notebook with all his might...but who never speaks.

COuldn't stop listening
Revisado: 11-29-22
I know this is not a "classic" like some, but between the story line and the narrator, it is one of the few books I could not wait to get back and listen to. Usually I just listen when driving or such, but I listened to this all over the place.
Some have said it was like reading Hallmark cards, and maybe there was some of that, but it had a good mystery, and good character development. I cannot go into more without giving the plot away, but it fit the bill of an interesting story, not twists and turns of surprise, but a slow reveal.

Almost a 5 star
Revisado: 10-02-22
I really enjoyed the story line of this book... my first of this series but I have listened to most of David Baldacci's other books. This one has a lot of fast paced action, but is not just a carbon copy of other FBI books, as Atlee is the lone agent in a one person office in a tiny town in AZ. The main story was great... the back story about her twin sister who was kidnapped when they were 6 was much less defined here. I assume future books will deal with this.
I would have given it 5 stars, save for the awful narration only when voicing Sam Kettler. Every time he "spoke" I thought of Disney's Goofy... really? All the other voices were great. This really grated on me throughout the book.
