This is my third year listening to this book start to finish while I bake Christmas cookies for friends and neighbors. It’s a perfect length for while I bake Christmas cookies, decorating them and doing up the dishes. My own personal holiday tradition.

The accent really added the richness to the story telling. Also calming to listen too.

First time hearing the story, really enjoyed it. As an adult I found the story very detailed and emotionally engaging. I was surprised to hear some swear words- nothing wrong by it for an adult or teen listener- but if I had a child 11yrs and younger maybe not okay with it. Other than that it didn’t detract from the story or wasn’t vulgar. Also I understand the ride at Disneyland much better thanks to the story!

This is a perfect audiobook for a road trip. It can grab the attention of both adults and kids. Very descriptive with what they ate! Will make you hungry as you listen to the story, but also many good learning moments about children being hard workers and all members of a family working together.

Understanding another side to American History

Even though this book is fictional, it doesn’t take away from the truth of what happened on the daily for those citizens who lived through segregation times in the south. In my opinion, the narration of the blended stories through the mindset and views of each character is just brilliant , and makes the story lifelike. Absolutely loved listening to this audio book, even cried at the end. Hearing the voices and the emotions of what black women went through just brought to life what they witnessed but never were able to speak openly about, the story gives a voice to that generation.
