Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Historia
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

This book told me much more than I expected about Facebook
Revisado: 03-29-25
I bought this audiobook to support a whistleblower who was bullied by Facebook to stop promoting her book. I wanted to create the opposite effect.
I got much more than I expected.
I have seen the callousness and hubris of senior corporate executives in my personal experiences.
Sarah’s account of how senior Facebook executives were completely indifferent to the harm and damage their platform was causing its users (Chinese users and teenage girls) and its users’ victims (Rohingya in Myanmar) was beyond callous. It damaged people’s lives, and damaged Facebook’s own operations,
She also described some very callous managerial indifference to a contractor employee who experienced a seizure in the corporate offices takes this to another level. Besides being “not nice”, or “not representative of our company’s values,” this was really dangerous behavior at the company offices.
Facebook transformed from being a platform that was capable of changing the world under its own terms, to a company that was played and manipulated by the darker forces in society. It became the messenger and facilitator of the world’s most corrupt dictators, greedy corporate interests, and extreme fringe mindsets.
Above that, selling out didn’t benefit Facebook’s bottom line by much, if any. Between the reputational damage and the user exodus, Facebook would have probably benefited more by standing its ground on some basic moral issues.
In summary, excellent book. The narrative is told in a captivating prose, the story is both fascinating and important, and narration was pleasant. I loved listening to the relaxing New Zealand accent of the reader (was this the author’s own voice?).

Historia
Richard Pryor was arguably the single most influential performer of the second half of the twentieth century, and certainly he was the most successful black actor/comedian ever. Controversial and somewhat enigmatic in his lifetime, Pryor's performances opened up a new world of possibilities, merging fantasy with angry reality in a way that wasn't just new - it was heretofore unthinkable. His childhood in Peoria, Illinois, was spent just trying to survive.

Informative and interesting book
Revisado: 01-20-22
This book is referenced by so many other writers and journalists when reporting on scams, and for good reason. Far from being a dry academic analysis on the psychology of con artists and their victims, it gives a both examples and clear explanations on how the "confidence game" works so many times, and why it is so successful.
An excellent book for both reading pleasure and learning about true human insight.

Historia
In her memoir, Power offers an urgent response to the question "What can one person do?" and a call for a clearer eye, a kinder heart, and a more open and civil hand in our politics and daily lives. The Education of an Idealist traces Power’s distinctly American journey from immigrant to war correspondent to presidential Cabinet official. In 2005, her critiques of US foreign policy caught the eye of newly elected senator Barack Obama, who invited her to work with him on Capitol Hill and then on his presidential campaign.
