Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now. Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. Ungodly dull
Revisado: 01-17-25
I cannot follow any plot. The narrator is boring. I am 1/3 of the way through and Amy and Steve are of no interest to me.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Just got dull
Revisado: 11-21-24
It is an interesting premise but about half way through it just got tedious and dull. I pushed through hoping it might bounce back but it did not.
One and done.

Historia
Everyone in the quiet Jersey Shore town of Silver Bay knows the story: on a Sunday evening in September 1991, Ramsey Miller threw a blowout block party, then murdered his beautiful wife and three-year-old daughter. But everyone is wrong. The daughter got away. Now she is nearly eighteen and tired of living in secrecy. Under the name Melanie Denison, she has spent the last fifteen years in small-town West Virginia as part of the Witness Protection Program. She has never been allowed to travel, go to a school dance, or even have internet at home. Precautions must be taken at every turn, because Ramsey Miller was never caught and might still be looking for his daughter.

Meh
Revisado: 04-01-23
It would have been better with two narrators - one for each time period. The story needed to be tightened as parts were just too fluffy.

Why on Earth did I finish this? Skip it.
Revisado: 03-16-23
I can burn through a good book in a few days. It took me nearly six weeks on this. I am sure the narrator is a nice guy, but his accents were jarring and at times down right annoying. The story was a rehash of some Dan Brown-esque novel, National Treasure movie, and an bad harlequin romance.

So disappointed
Revisado: 07-25-22
I really enjoyed the first book. It had good pacing. Strong characters and a good plot.
This one… it has all fallen apart. I am 1/2 way through and stopping. Nothing has really happened. I’m bored. I kept listening thinking the plot would gel an d purpose would appear. Nope. Still ambling around.

A classic novel by John D. MacDonald with an exclusive introduction written and read by Dean Koontz. Once an ordinary math teacher, Omar Krepps developed a knack for gambling, amassed a fabulous fortune, and spent the rest of his life traveling the world and giving away his millions. Upon his death, however, Krepps bequeaths nothing to his nephew and only living blood relative, Kirby Winter - nothing, that is, except an antique watch and a sealed letter to be opened after one year. But Kirby has much more in his possession than he realizes. The watch has the power to manipulate time.

That was frustrating
Revisado: 02-12-21
I listened to the whole book. But it was annoying. I could never fully understand what kind of story he was telling. Was it a mystery? A sci-fi? A romance? It was a mess. And the narrator had a sing-song type of oration that didn’t help much.

I tried to like it
Revisado: 02-06-21
I listened to this for three hours. I tried to stay engaged. I tried to follow along. And I had to give up. It’s so disjointed and slow. I was hoping for a good time travel book - especially one with a lot of sequels. I will stick with Rysa Walker Chronos Series as my benchmark.

Wow - so many rate this as awesom
Revisado: 05-19-20
I finished it. Not sure how. The story is rather dull and fairly predictable. The reader isn’t very good. His inflection doesn’t match what is going on. And the humor doesn’t quite match what is going on.
Maybe I’m just not a Zombie apocalypse fan.
