Historia
In 1927, eight-year-old Clara Harrington’s magical childhood shatters when her mother, renowned author, Bronwyn Newcastle Fordham, disappears off the coast of South Carolina. Bronwyn stunned the world with a book written in an invented language that became a national sensation when she was just twelve years old. Her departure leaves behind not only a devoted husband and heartbroken daughter, but also the hope of ever translating the sequel to her landmark work. As the headlines focus on the missing author, Clara yearns for something far deeper and more insatiable: her beautiful mother.

Stunningly lyrical and beautiful
Revisado: 03-31-25
This is a book I will think about for a long time after finishing. The language was eloquent and lyrical, but the story itself was also captivating. This is a gorgeous story of love, forgiveness, and appreciation of art and nature. It examines what it means to be family and what we do for those we love. The landscape of both South Carolina and Cumbria are characters in the novel and the descriptions make me want to visit both. This was a unique story that wound history with charm and whimsy.

Rather boring
Revisado: 03-27-25
I usually love Ms. Cleeton’s novels that intertwine history and intrigue with Cuban flavor. This novel fell flat. There just wasn’t enough “there” there to make it interesting and believable. It was unique to tell the story through the house - but maybe give the house a voice as well. I didn’t feel very invested in these characters and didn’t really understand their behavior.

Historia
It’s the week before her wedding, and all of Eliza’s meticulous planning is about to pay off. She’s become the exact type of woman who would marry into the prominent, blue-blood Walker family–Ivy League credentials, a high-powered PR job, and a designer label wardrobe. But as the big day approaches, secrets from Eliza’s past attending an Evangelical college start to throw her true motives into question. Who exactly is Eliza Bennett and what does she really want?

Interesting and unique
Revisado: 03-26-25
Revenge is still a powerful motivator. While I generally figured it out about 1/2 way through - it was still an interesting thriller with some twists and turns. It makes you think about this generation living their lives for all to see on social media and what can be learned just with a little bit of research.
You’ll have to employ “willing suspension of disbelief” at times (what 18 year old leaves for college and never speaks to her family again? Why would they keep paying tuition for a kid they haven’t seen or spoken to in years? Would a family in a religious cult really let a daughter leave and go to college?)
The narrator was excellent and I’ll look for other books she narrates.

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and Charlotte and Seth are not looking for romance. Armed with emotional-support bear spray, Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker can do that to a person’s nerves. Just across the hall and giving off woodsy vibes is Seth, a recently divorced arborist. As in today recently. Heights, he’s fine with. Trust? Not so much.

Hauntingly beautiful
Revisado: 03-18-25
I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read this story. It is an epic tale, born in historic facts, expertly woven by Ms. Quinn. The characters, and all of their courage and flaws, come to life.
The audio version and the printed versions are equally impactful, but the narrator does an excellent job with various voices, languages, accents etc and the story comes to life as she reads.

Jocelyn is ready to get married—and more ready to have fun. She plans a bachelorette trip to North Wales, where she can forget about her strained relationship and focus on the tension among friends instead. It’s a welcome distraction. Except one.

The most despicable characters
Revisado: 03-04-25
There was literally not one likable character in this novel. Each is more horrific than the next. I feel so sorry for the little girl, Molly.
The story is suspenseful and has some interesting twists and turns - but there were a couple loose ends and by then end there were literally no characters to root for - they are each inexorably flawed. It’s hard to comprehend why they were friends and why they were still in touch.

Thought this was a trilogy - my bad!
Revisado: 01-29-25
This book was WAY TOO LONG for very little story advancement. I will not continue until the final two books are released - but honestly, I’m not really sure I’m invested enough in these characters to continue. It seems to be the exact same story over and over with very little character growth or change. It’s almost lazy how long this book is and how repetitive the scenes are; it could have been 300 pages. I enjoyed the unique story of the first book, but each one has just seemed like the same book, with a few new little details.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

Romance can be a little complicated when you get sucked into a wormhole. Just ask high school English teacher June Flint. One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights. But when June’s cell phone inexplicably picks up a signal, she’s able to call back to the present—more specifically, four weeks before she accidentally time traveled.

As others mentioned, the voice of Mia was irritating and sounded like a child. I was a little anxious during the first 1/2 but all the twists and turns ended up providing a great story.
