I’m supposed to be the Alpha's mate. Screw that. Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing—the Alpha’s Mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf.

I could not have been happier to have the series!

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from the series and I was gobsmacked by how much I enjoyed it. I even dreamt about it halfway through the series...but...wow...love the drama!

Historia
Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again. After 15 years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another. I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side. All I wanted was for him to come back to me. Then, Jackson Emery appeared. He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart. We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love.

Well developed characters, situations, & much love
Revisado: 04-22-20
I really enjoy the author's ability to wrap you up in her character's lives, and I appreciate that they are more dimensional than just the two main characters' relationship development (which is awesome!). There is so much good character development, and again, in the entire cast of characters (okay, some more than others). This book is touching in its sibling relationship, strained and challenged parental relationships, and awesome sweet love developing in the most unexpected of partners. Highly recommend.

Greyson East left his mark on me. As the young girl who first fell for him, I didn’t know much about life. I did know about his smiles, though, and his laughs, and the strange way my stomach flipped when he was near. Life was perfect…until it wasn’t, and when we were forced to go our separate ways, I held on to our memories, let go of my first crush, and wished for the day I’d find him again.

This book has all the feels...
Revisado: 04-22-20
Keep your tissues handy, but don't despair. This book has it all. Love, life challenges, friendship, love, redemption, and lots of personal growth. And the love and relationships were all heartfelt. Parents and kids, friends, lovers, spouses. For those with trigger issues: there is cancer and auto accident related tragedy. But there is also a gentle spiritual encouragement and healing from those life events. While in COVID-19 seclusion, I'm mostly choosing lighter topics, I listened to this book twice. In a row. I highly recommend it.

Historia
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked.

This whole series is fun and funny!
Revisado: 06-06-19
I am consistently impressed with the way that Annette Marie develops the world, the characters, the plot points, and our understanding of what makes the various people tick. And I love the twists and turns Tori and her mage friends' relationships have taken. I struggled a little bit with Tori's denial in this storyline; it felt a little contradictory to her usual can't-leave-it-alone curiosity, but her struggle to maintain perhaps some of the most important relationships in her life makes it believable. There is a bit less humor in this book vs the others in the series, but the dialog is still witty and fast moving. My biggest problem is that I've now binge-listened to all the books in the series twice - now I have to wait for the next book to be written!

Historia
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

Another enjoyable read in the Guild Codex series!
Revisado: 06-06-19
Annette Marie has successfully avoided the pitfalls I have seen in second books in a series. She continues world building with growing levels of insight into the characters and the rules of society. There is good character development (I get bored if characters are unchanging and don't ever learn - though some things like Tori's temper are likely here to stay). The story is fast-moving with funny and creative dialog. Cris Dukehart delivers a wonderful performance again, with her character voices matching the personalities. There is mystery, action, magic, mayhem, and humor in pretty much perfect balance, with enough not-yet-developed motivations and situations to keep me wanting to read more.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

A fun read, with plenty of snark!
Revisado: 06-06-19
I picked this up during one of Audible's big sales, and I loved it! The characters are multi-dimensional, have just enough personal flaws to make them interesting, and the dialog is snappy and clever. I had a good laugh at some of the lines and circumstances during the first read, and found myself enjoying a second read through just as much. Annette Marie places plenty of plot points and world building mysteries into the book, giving her lots of directions to take the short and long term stories. Cris Dukehart does an amazing job performing the book, keeping the characters easy to distinguish by voice, and cadence. In addition, her portrayal of the Tori, the lead character, is very animated with the dialog solidly reinforced with the sass in delivery. I will definitely get the other books in the series.

Planning my own wedding should mean I'm having the time of my life...not defending it every time I turn around. Dragons, feral Wolves and Were Cows...I mean who in the hell knew Were Cows even existed? All I wanna do is marry Hank, have 2.5 beautiful little Werewolf babies, and live happily ever after while having sex on a very regular basis. Oh...and I still want to shoot stuff occasionally. Apparently no one got the memo.

Ridonkulously entertaining...always makes me laugh
Revisado: 01-14-19
This book (and series) is a generally lighthearted and clever combination of romance, comedy, adventure, and pure fantasy. The characters and situations are so very far fetched that somehow they work, and the pithy sarcasm and unique twist in the use of slang stick with me and have me smirking intermittently through the day. If you like irreverence and crazy story lines, you'll enjoy this.

Good but doesn't live up to Watcher Chronicles
Revisado: 12-03-18
Caylin's story is good, but a bit of a disappointment after the Watcher Chronicles. The story/universe seems to become so much more biblical and predictable, not the uniqueness of the story about the tear in reality from the Watcher Chronicles. Further, while I appreciate the personal growth demonstrated by Caylin's pre-destined love interest and soul mate, Aiden, this book doesn't focus on that but on Caylin, who seems rather unchanged from the beginning of this book to the end of the next. I prefer a little more personal / character development. I'm glad I didn't read these books first, or I would have missed out on the Watcher Chronicles.

Molly Harper rocks, Amanda Ronconi delivers!
Revisado: 12-03-18
Cassandra Reed, a sickly and weak young woman whose family makes special allowances for her, has a lot to learn about herself. While I love the snarky strong female characters written by Molly Harper, this book seems to go down a different road that is still all the delight I've come to expect. The unique society described in this book is well done, and the way in which Cassandra seems destined to turn it on its ear is awesome. Amanda Ronconi, whose performances never disappoint, does a whole array of accents I've not heard from her before. Well done! Definitely worth a read/listen!

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

Quirky and unique - love the personal growth
Revisado: 11-26-18
Stella is autistic; brilliant and analytically minded. But she wants to make her parents proud, and her mother has told her she'd like to see Stella eventually marry and have a family. So Stella consults a professional...escort (Michael Phan) to teach her sex. They each have their personal demons, and the warm and persistent way they work together to learn love (and sex) is nice. Helen Hoang did a beautiful job of describing the unique way Stella views the world, and Michael's sensitivity and adaptation of his approach with Stella is the stuff of fantasy (mostly). I voted for this book in its category in Goodread's competition!
