Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Man what can you say it is all over the place so many stories going on all at one time like a whrlwind of stuff everywhere yet super compelling. They say the phase So It Goes at every death and you would think that it is super cold but no it is ultra compassionate. I wish I could hold a person as I was held in this story.

Historia
Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

Nice really liked it.
Revisado: 07-17-19
I really liked the book. Was a little disappointed that Professor Dawkins didn't go too deeply into the watchmaker argument, not that it is very convincing but that it is a common statement.
I had also wondered before why Professor Dawkins was so aggressive to religion now I have a better understanding, surprisingly not in the chapter dedicated to it but in the chapters before.
Overall a great time, boring facts put in an engaging way, a nice balance to Tolstoy's A Confession, which I really love, which although is an apology book lead me to this one. What makes a great book for me is the connection you get with the author.
Very fun.

Historia
In The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker, one of the world's leading experts on language and the mind, explores the idea of human nature and its moral, emotional, and political colorings. With characteristic wit, lucidity, and insight, Pinker argues that the dogma that the mind has no innate traits, denies our common humanity and our individual preferences, replaces objective analyses of social problems with feel-good slogans, and distorts our understanding of politics, violence, parenting, and the arts.

Should I do it again?
Revisado: 11-04-18
Whoa what a monster of a book, very overwhelming. I would say every 1to 3 the chapters could have been it's own book, Pinker fills the book with so many facts it hard to dispute, yet how can one believe that co-dependency or self abuse is not the direct result of the parents. Well other than the conclusion, the book is very thought provoking, it does speak of other issues and is great for pondering. My main issue with the book is not the content but the structure, the information is great and needs eminence thought but I doubt I would read it again because of the structure. He doesn`t start off with a topic sentence so your hit with facts before you even know what the argument is. I`m really not telling the truth I will do the Blank Slate again because after the book is done I got a good concept of the argument. So overall great information but overwhelming, but I suppose Pinker is overwhelmed with information he wants to portray.

Revisado: 09-22-18
A lot of neat stuff starting with Pinocchio was made with bad wood. Ohh and so much more great story from a different time a lot more violent than any cartoon but truly good fun. Well worth your time and different from what you think you know. There are still morals in the story.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

One of the biggest books in my life
Revisado: 09-18-18
Too much to say here, so I say little. Does it tell you the meaning of life? I would say yes if you believe such things. So saying that I have met people who have read it and were not moved, but this book has changed my overall perception of life. Starts in a concentration camp ends in a doctors office. How does phycology play in a concentration camp, and how does a concentration camp play in Phycology? A great read or listen, I do both.

Historia
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

Why this book?
Revisado: 09-18-18
One day I came across Sam Harris's Ted Talk at the time of this book. I thought it was OK not that moving but it was a little thought-provoking, have a clear goal on morals, know what your moral are, yeah, yeah, you know. Then I was a short time later watching Bart Erhman give a talk about the bibles answers for suffering. I thought this talk was pretty good but at the end of the talk, people were able to ask questions. That's when my mind was blown, a lady asks "What makes you think that suffering is evil?" Now it's not like I've never heard the question or statement, I probably heard it thousands of times but never after someone says "morals are well being". Had to get the book.
Now the book itself doesn't really answer these question but I did like it was a nice start on a quest. I found a few pieces of the map in my quest for the meaning of morality. I don't know how I feel about his critique of religion, I do believe in the First Amendment, but do Christians really believe suffering is not evil so I guess great job, Sam.
