Historia
In They Knew, New York Times bestselling author Sarah Kendzior explores the United States’ “culture of conspiracy,” putting forth a timely and unflinching argument: uncritical faith in broken institutions is as dangerous as false narratives peddled by propagandists. Conspiracy theories are on the rise because officials refuse to enforce accountability for real conspiracies.

Deeply disappointed
Revisado: 11-01-22
If you want a book that tell you exactly what you want to hear. Then this book is for you. However, if you want a book based in critical thinking, then sadly this book is not for you.
This book is just a 9 hour rant. Just saying the same tho h over and over again in 20 different ways doesn’t prove her case.
She provided examples of conspiracies that ultimately leads nowhere. Other than you just have to take her word for it.
There was not a single OMG moment. Just superficial ranting with no coherent structure or evidence to back anything up.

A fast-paced, rollicking, behind-the-scenes account of how the GOP since the 1950s has encouraged and exploited extremism, bigotry, and paranoia to gain power, American Psychosis offers listeners a brisk, can-you-believe-it journey through the netherworld of far-right irrationality and the Republican Party’s interactions with the darkest forces in America.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-23-22
I just finished this and sadly I can’t recommend it. The first 1/3 is great. But the rest is just summarising news headlines. 🤷♂️
It had so much potential. My biggest problem with it is…why? Why are Americans so drawn to conspiracy BS? This stuff doesn’t fly in another other country but flourishes in the US. None of this was addressed.

Historia
At the end of the 1980s, when the Cold War ended, many, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, believed that democracy had triumphed politically once and for all. Yet nearly 30 years later, the direction of history no longer seems certain. A repressive and destructive force has begun to reemerge on the global stage - sweeping across Europe, parts of Asia, and the United States - that to Albright, looks very much like fascism.

Title doesn’t match the content.
Revisado: 05-12-18
Sadly, one of the worst books I’ve ever read. So disappointed. The title doesn’t match the content. Only partly defines fascism. She blurs the line between true fascism and totalitarian states. Refers to North Korea as a fascist state, praises Trump for the sanctions against Russia, praises Bush for his handling of 9/11. Spends 80% talking about the evils of countries like Venezuela but no mention of Pinochet, for example.
I come across so many people who don’t know what fascism is and put a lot on energy into re-writing history. The NAZIS were Left Wing Socialist sort of thing. This book plays right into their hands. 😡😡😡

I feel conned by this book.
Revisado: 04-24-17
What disappointed you about The Devil's Diary?
I was expecting full readinging from his diaries. What I got was a superficial reselling of the history of the nazis with a little commentary from Rosenberg.
What could Robert K. Wittman and David Kinney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Provided full diary eateries. And provided an insight into what made Rosenberg think.
What didn’t you like about P. J. Ochlan’s performance?
The performance was too monotone.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None!

Historia
Redefining our traditional understanding of the New Deal, Fear Itself finally examines this pivotal American era through a sweeping international lens that juxtaposes a struggling democracy with enticing ideologies like Fascism and Communism. Ira Katznelson, "a towering figure in the study of American and European history" (Cornel West), boldly asserts that, during the 1930s and 1940s, American democracy was rescued yet distorted by a unified band of southern lawmakers who safeguarded racial segregation as they built a new national state to manage capitalism and assert global power.

A coherent narrative.
Any additional comments?
I listened to about 3 hours and it drove me nuts. It's nothing but incoherent ramblings. I was really hoping that it would get to a point but it ever did.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Historia
When the Fox Film Corporation merged with Twentieth Century Pictures in 1935, the company posed little threat to industry juggernauts such as Paramount and MGM. In the years that followed however, guided by executives Darryl F. Zanuck and Spyros Skouras, it soon emerged as one of the most important studios.

Disjointed
Revisado: 02-21-16
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narration at times sound 'non-human'. And clearly knows nothing of film or politics. He mispronounced several famous actors names and mispronounced Khrushchev badly.
Any additional comments?
The book itself was fascinating in some areas but over all I found it lacking a coherent narrative.

Revisado: 09-30-14
What did you love best about The Coming of the Third Reich?
I've read many books on Hitler & the NAZIS from Shirer to Kershaw. This is the only one that truly puts the NAZIS in context within the political environment of early 20th century Germany.
Any additional comments?
This is a must read for anybody who wants to see exactly were the NAZIS fit into the political landscape of 1920's Germany. Over the last decade there has been a concerted campaign by some on the 'far Right' to re-write history and claim that Hitler and the NAZIS were 'Left Wing'. The Coming of the Third Rieth is a goldmine for debunking such revisionism.

Historia
On September 30, 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain flew back to London from his meeting at Munich with the German chancellor Adolf Hitler and was greeted with a hero's welcome. As he paused on the aircraft steps, he held aloft the piece of paper, bearing both his and the Fuhrer's signatures, that contained the promise that Britain and Germany would never go to war with each other again.

It seems unfinished
Revisado: 10-14-13
Any additional comments?
What's in this book is incredibly detailed. But what isn't is this book...just isn't in this book.
So much details about Germanies military scandals which are not particularly relevant to what happened in Munich.
Apart from one or two lines. There was no mention and certainly no details about what was going on with Russia. Nothing about why Britain adopted a policy of Apeasement or why Chamberland was a pacifist.
All of these issues are covered in other books such as Volume 2 of the Churchill: The Last Lion. I was exspecting these issues to be covered in great detail and I am shocked to discover that weren't even addressed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
"History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."
Sir Winston Churchill
This book is evidence of that. It should be taken with a grain of salt when he talks about himself however it does provide a unique perspective from someone that was there. So much has been written about the German side of things during this period but little about the British side.
I learnt a lot from this book such as the fact that Poland grabbed part of Czechoslovakia as part of the German carve up in 1938.
Highly recommended for someone that wants to fill in the gap of their WWII knowledge.
