This book is so well thought out. A mixture of real, personal grit and analysis of policy with a clear path forward. The authors performance on this audio book is so emotional, because this public health crisis is maddening. You will be glad you read/listened to this book.

Clear and thorough

This is a very well researched and explained book. I knew very little about Buddhism - just enough to teach a Short unit to ninth graders -and now feel I have a much stronger grasp.

A dare to dream big

If your teacher was completely comfortable with the status quo this book will challenge you. But the other pointed out that no one is comfortable with the status quo so if you are a teacher or other education leader and feeling frustrated, this book will validate and challenge you. As a person who loves examples, this book is chock-full of strong examples of education leaders swimming against the tide and the rewards they’re seeing in their students. We can do this, and this book will help.

What a treat

The title is perfectly suited to this audiobook. Lowe has a gift of humility that made it impossible for me to be jealous of his impossibly incredible life. I could only be happy for him. This child of the 80s was so sad when the book ended.

Overwhelming condescension

Getting past the narrator’s incredibly condescending tone made this book a true slog. She had perfect diction, pronunciation and enunciation, but her tone was over the top. I couldn’t help but wonder if that was the intention. Was she chosen so that she could make readers feel ashamed for even slightly taking issue with the content of the book? The book, as a result, came off angry and sarcastic. I pictured all of the educators who are completely resistant to the idea that things are not perfect, clinging to every word in this book as a vindication. I saw all of the educators who’ve cracked jokes over the years about passing educational fads as if that was an excuse for unexamined practices.

I feel smarter

Glad I chose audio version though not working along with the PDF problems was disadvantageous. Narration was tops. I'll be reading this again for sure. #thanksObama

Felt left out

I don't in anyway regret reading this book. So much wisdom, so many cool stories, and so much I agree with on an ontological level. That said, I found it surprisingly difficult to get through. I feel like it's my personal failing, but the only way I can describe the feeling is 'left out'. It was like the tone was entirely magnanimous. Like the writer could never even want to understand or be bothered with a person like me. So proud of the feminine strength but it's as if any sense of personal vulnerability is gone, despite clear attempts to show such.
