Good guy vs bad for you guy... Makes great romance
Revisado: 07-01-22
This book has a tw: parent loss, that I wish I'd known of before, because it hit me really hard and it took me a couple of days to recover from, emotionally.
If you have unfortunately gone through this, especially at a young age, then this book might hurt you, too.
That being said, Emma intertwines Someday, Someday's Silas Marsh into this one very subtly and with the utmost care. If you've read that one then it's a pleasant surprise to see that he's mentioned in this one, despite the two books being in complete different worlds otherwise.
Holden is a broken kid.. And River is the star QB. This coming of age, high school romance, doesn't read like high school at all. I almost forgot that it was high school centric except for some parts relating to homecoming, prom, graduation... The love that Holden & River have is so... Fictional yet believable. I love them both. The HEA was very neat, not rushed, and not "very convenient"... It felt just right for everyone.
Zachary Johnson and Eric London do a fantastic narration. I now have two new narrators I'd gladly listen to more of, for them in my ear. The emotions they put into this really pulled me into this world that Emma made.

Oh my love for a military man
Revisado: 06-16-22
I stumbled across this from countless recommendations but sadly it's Melissa's only mm romance book.
Tristan and Alex's story is so good. The history for both are filling enough to give me a sense of who they are, and what demons each faced with in the past.
I should have read that this book has some key TW for death, toxic masculinity, and military, but I guess ignorance is bliss in that I was blindsided with emotions.
The HEA was neat and clean but not forced, I cried at the end, it was so right for both of them.
Teddy & Jacob are a star duo every time, but I only wish I could tell the difference between Jacob & Teddy a bit more. It may be the writing but at times I couldn't distinguish if it was Alex speaking from Tristan's perspective, or if it was Tristan speaking from his own perspective.... If you get my gist.
Either way, loved this book. I hope Melissa will write more mm stories in the future. This is a standalone in the Harborside Nights series but you don't need to have read the other books to know anything about these MCs.

Look, when I met the sexy, witty Brit on the streets of London last night, I had no idea who he was. He was just that hot guy I wanted to have a drink with, so I asked him out for my first evening in town. One thing almost led to another. After a midnight kiss, we made plans for a whole lot more the next day. But when I unlock the door to my rental in the morning, the English hottie is lounging on the couch like he lives here too. Great. For the next year, I’ll be sharing a tiny flat with the sexiest guy I’ve ever known.

My heart aches for TJ & Jude....!
Revisado: 06-09-22
My heart! My poor heart! Ahhhhhhhhhhh whyyy?!?
This is a fantastic departure for Lauren. Jude and TJ are so good and beautiful together, so perfect for each other, and quite honestly, I was expecting a neat HEA too. My emotions and investment into trying so hard to not finish this book as quickly as I did were so involved.
The book moved at a good pace, I felt I knew who Jude and TJ were, without losing a sense of their history or past. Their separate lives, their successes and failures... And the book spans years of time passing too. Like I said, it felt like a departure for Lauren, as I feel like a lot of her work continues or carries on within a current or overlapping time period.
Teddy Hamilton and Shane East narrating are a dream team! The ensemble supporting cast is wonderful too, I'm so glad to be able to get basically an audio movie out of this. I cannot wait for the next books in this series.

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

Sweetest romance ever
Revisado: 06-01-22
This review may have a spoiler...
I almost never listen to teenage or high school aged romances, as it makes me feel icky... But what I did do instead was take myself back to that age and relive the feelings instead.
Ben & Arthur were two teens that embody almost every lgbtqia+ teen that maybe have met someone who might have the ability to change their lives, and it's written so well to be any one of us in any scenario in our lives.
I enjoyed the book from beginning to end, loved all the side characters, and even though there was no official HEA, I was still satisfied with how the two ended up.
Froy and Noah do an excellent job at narrating both their parts and their friends' too.

I was afraid to fly. He made me soar. After years of climbing the ladder of success in the music industry, I finally had everything I could want. Yet I still found myself wandering through life alone. Captain Evan Roth was the one man I never saw coming. Tall, dark, mysterious...Straight. We were both damaged beyond repair and searching for something so elusive we weren't sure it even existed. But, when two broken souls collide in midair, falling is a given. I just never expected to crave the spiral down.

"hevan" feels realistic
Revisado: 05-21-22
I don't normally like g4y but this isn't exactly that so that might be why I enjoy this one. I was really rooting for Henry and Evan so much. Book has great history build up for the main characters, I felt the connection between each and for Levy too.
Narrated by Teddy is always great in my ear but Aiden was a first for me. I'm in love with the dynamics of the two, they really put their all in the words. I felt all the emotions and it was so good.
The HEA and epilogue made my heart soar.

I thought I'd be okay when Caspian Hart left. He was a brilliant, beautiful billionaire with a past he couldn't escape. And I was...just me: an ordinary man lost in his own life. It would never have lasted. It should never have happened. Not outside a fairytale. And I am okay. I've got my job, my family, my friends, and everything Caspian taught me. Except it turns out he's going to marry his ex-boyfriend. A man who doesn't understand him. A man who almost broke him. And I've finally realized it's not enough for me to be happy. I need Caspian to be happy, too.

Bit of a stretch for HEA
Revisado: 05-13-22
The final book in the Arden St Ives trilogy and it was a bit of a struggle to get Ardy's HEA. There was a lot of time spent on secondary and even tertiary characters, that I really didn't care for, though I guess it's because the story is in Arden's POV, and not the general sense for the reader.
I would have liked more of Nathaniel & Caspian, or even Caspian and his mother or anyone else, over George or anyone else. The book could have done without the, side quests, as I like to think of them, because they didn't really add to the heartache that Arden was going through.
In the end though, I got what I wanted and what Arden needed, it cleaned up very nicely and believably too.
Joel does an excellent job narrating everyone's parts, he has such a wide range of vocal ability and talent at accents, though as an American, I wouldn't know if Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English, or any other accents were "good" or not anyhow. Thank you Alexis, and Joel, for taking us on this journey.

Heartbreaking sequel...
Revisado: 05-01-22
I finished this a couple of days ago.
It left in an unsatisfactory manner, imo.
It couldn't possibly stand on its own, but it started off that way. It could be 2 & 3 or 1, but 1 & 2 was not helpful to anyone.
I was so hurt at the end of this book... That I really didn't want to try book 3 to make sure Ardy gets his HEA. I wanted him to just... Live his life, even if it wasn't a HEA ending. It was heartbreaking, the culmination of the title of this book fell on the last 2 chapters, so the anticipation and anxiety was looming overhead this whole time, and when it came, that was it. No solution... Just.. Ending. 😮💨😢
The continued narration by Joel is pure and perfect. His voice covering all the characters is great and I really enjoy how he changes more of Ardy Baby than in the first book.

If England had yearbooks, I'd probably be "Arden St. Ives: Man Least Likely to Set the World on Fire." I've no idea what I'm doing at Oxford and, until a week ago, I had no idea who Caspian Hart was. Turns out, he's brilliant, beautiful...oh yeah, and a billionaire. It's impossible not to be captivated by someone like that. But Caspian Hart makes his own rules. And he has a lot of them. About when I can be with him. What I can do with him. And when he'll be through with me. But now that Caspian's shown me glimpses of the man behind the billionaire I know it's him I want.

Oh Caspian, my Caspian....
Revisado: 04-19-22
I had just come off of Boyfriend Material, and Red White & Royal Blue, yearning for another similar story, but not a direct version with Playing the Palace. I initially didn't think much of HTBAB, but something inside me (and the bazillion reviews here and on GoodReads, had me convinced to give it a go.
Knowing in advanced that this is a 3 book series, helps to alleviate the fact that we spent so much time doing so little.
Whole chapters on one night, or one afternoon... However, I would have liked a little more back story on Arden and Caspian. 4 chapters in and we finally learn a TINY BIT about Caspian's father and that's all we get. Maybe Alexis wants us to know only so much that Arden knows too... But I also don't know Arden that well either.
We get a bit more of Ardy and Caspian as people near the end, but there's no way the book felt complete as it stands alone because of that.
Joel as narrator does an excellent job of all the characters, and the story writing is very much in the POV of Ardy.. I want to know more about Caspian.. And I'm sure Ardy does too.

Daddy issues + self reflection
Revisado: 04-10-22
This book.. Is so sad. It's so sad!
Conversion therapy is so sad! I would re-listen to this for sure, but it's a hard one to listen to... And to think this type of thing happens CURRENTLY is mind boggling too, which is probably why I'm more emotional about it than I would be. Also, not a real spoiler but my dad & I had a decent relationship growing up, except we never talked about me being gay, and this book... Oh... It's a lot of emotions if you don't have a good one with yours either.
Narrator for Max had a clear and warm voice, but Silas' voice recordings were a little bit noisy/staticky, which pulled me out of the story sometimes, probably a quality issue more than anything.
The anger in both the MCs fuels their own personal relationships with their families, but it doesn't get in the way of each other (not too much anyway). It has a HEA ending that felt just right, and an epilogue that neatly tied the knot into a perfect bow without being rushed. It was just enough.

When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

In a post-Obama era, does this read as fiction
Revisado: 03-31-22
What a ride! I felt all the emotions in this book. I was hopeful, happy, angry, sad, joyful, jealous, loved and in love, and most of all, proud. So so proud of Alex and Henry. Proud to be an American (in the book...), and proud to be a part of the lgbtqia+ community (always).
I can't wait to listen to this again, I loved and knew all of the characters, even if I didn't have my own Prince Charming, I still felt like I knew each person. This takes the ($75,000) cake for my ultimate favorite MM book of all time.
