Historia
In her memoir, Power offers an urgent response to the question "What can one person do?" and a call for a clearer eye, a kinder heart, and a more open and civil hand in our politics and daily lives. The Education of an Idealist traces Power’s distinctly American journey from immigrant to war correspondent to presidential Cabinet official. In 2005, her critiques of US foreign policy caught the eye of newly elected senator Barack Obama, who invited her to work with him on Capitol Hill and then on his presidential campaign.

Good start, Bit exhausting
Revisado: 04-22-20
While I knew going into this one the content would be politically slanted, I was disappointed as it went on with the level of hero worshipping of Obama. I thought the guy was a heck of a speaker, generally a good guy even though I did not align well with his philosophies. But on and on it went. I just lost interest, which was frustrating because I really wanted to walk away from this with a greater knowledge and understanding, appreciation.
So, if that is a topic that you would enjoy, you will appreciate this. If not, I would not consider.
The start was good, i.e. the backstory from her days a correspondent, childhood, etc. To hear the description of the initial discussions with Obama was a bit cringy, a bit like a teenager describing a crush. I found awkward.
Narration was above average, a bit monotone but not to the point of off-putting at all.
I guess I started to think one of the issues we have is that the world is filling full of idealists, and we need fewer idealists and more who can actually realistically identify with the majority.
I exchanged, returned. Thank goodness for that policy.

Historia
As human beings, we will inevitably go through a life-changing event at some point in our life. It could be losing a job of 20 years, finalizing a divorce, or leaving the military. These life-changing events can have disastrous effects on us and the people around us. Some of us never work through these events and end up unhappy and stuck in life. This happened to Nick when he left a 12-year career as a Marine Raider with the Marine Corps Special Operations Unit. For years, he was stuck with feelings of anger, indifference, and bitterness.

Relatable
Revisado: 01-04-20
This is a book I think nearly every veteran, regardless of service or role, can and will relate to. While our society routinely expresses their appreciation for the service and commitment of our forces, often it seems (to me) to be for political correctness reasons, and I am not convinced they truly understand. Listening to what some deal with following their respective separations really portrays the sacrifices made pretty bluntly, and I appreciated that about this book. The presentation is very genuine, and the interviews between chapters were well conducted and tied the each chapter focus together well. And while about 95% is associated with military service, the concepts, scenarios, etc. really apply to anyone going through any form of rough transition. I listen to a fair amount of this type of book and have to say it was one of the most “enjoyable”, which feels like an odd way to describe. But there were parts where I would laugh and those that made me legitimately contemplate how I have and do deal with life’s challenges myself. While some of the stories may be tough for some, overall I found it a pretty inspiring listen and intend to recommend to several I think could really benefit.
My only ding on rating was I would have preferred the author narrate the entire book. He does a good job online and in the included interviews and could have easily pulled off and increased the quality IMO. The narrator is not bad, and as you get into the book it becomes less noticeable. As I listened I found going to Youtube and watching some of his vids there helped put faces with names and really increased my overall takeaway.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Great w a couple exceptions
Revisado: 11-18-18
The Haley character. Very unfortunate the way she was portrayed verbally. Very moronic, poorly performed compared to the other characters which were very well done. May have been intentional, but it detracts from the overall quality. Story is good, great really. I would have preferred a more thorough ending but have no regrets w this purchase, and can definitely say I feel I will think more about these events in the future, and be slower to cast judgment. While I had hoped it would be something I could encourage my young teen to listen to, it is a bit excessive on the language, and that may need to wait a couple of years. I gauge a story many times by whether or not I find myself wanting to direct a character to do something, or not, and there were several instances where I wanted to do just that. And there were many points where I literally found myself laughing out loud. That is a spectrum of emotion but reflects the story and characters overall.

Tend to agree - narration is more average than previous, but not as bad as many reviews suggest. Story is good but not outstanding, felt a bit mechanical, modest thrill, a bit more predictable than many in the past including those by KM, and the plausibility - even in fictional terms - gauge was struggling in places. Genuine 4 star. No more, no less. But I enjoy the series and look forward to the next installment.

Gingrich has teamed with former Washington Post reporter and best-selling author Pete Earley to create a highly plausible mix of domestic and global action in this ripped-from-the-headlines thriller.

Just OK, though better than anticipated
Revisado: 05-19-18
Story was just OK. Lead female was just entirely implausible, and the sappy romance aspects degraded from the larger story which was substantially better than her character. Narrator was pretty good. I purchased this cautiously on a $4.99 sale due to author, with pretty modest expectations and I would say it exceeded what I expected but still think I would suggest rated at a mid to high three overall-say 3.8. For $5 it was entertaining enough and I would give another of his a shot... for $5. But I can’t see myself burning a full credit on another by the same author unless I knew going in it had a better lead role. I cannot risk that kind of eye strain from rolling them so often.

When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Several good laughs
Revisado: 02-14-18
I thought the narrator nailed this one. It always surprises me when the book comes off as narrated by the author and then you find it is not, so high marks there. Seemed so natural.
The stories were pretty hilarious. Often I found myself literally laughing out loud. The sarcasm, I think that’s it. But she has a good sense of humor.
There were a couple parts that were so-so but generally never bored of the content. For the most part she stayed away from the politics and did not minimize the cost of the culture with regard to taxes need to support, which tends to be common in articles on the subject.
About the only part I was genuinely disappointed in was essentially the end. Felt abrupt. Overall no regrets and well worth the credit.

Tough without a roadmap
Revisado: 02-14-18
I really enjoy this series but felt like this fell short of the others. To me it has a real Game of Thrones feel trying to recall who is who and from what family, which can be a bit tiresome. It is clearly written as a continuation and will continue, which is the point but I like when a book at least has a feel that it could be read snd understood without having read all those prior. If you had not read the others you would be completely clueless, which I think will frustrate readers who happen to pick up unknowingly. Sevro is as entertaining as ever, enjoy that guy. But there were no new characters that equaled those in the first trio of books in the series. I do not regret the purchase, it was good. But the bar the author set for himself was set pretty high and I fear I will continually expect that bar to be exceeded and that will be tough to achieve. And I was skeptical initially with the narration but was pleasantly surprised in the end. All in all good but not great, but start at the beginning of the series.

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

Ironic; Listen to Sample
Revisado: 02-14-18
Had to laugh about half way through that while I am learning how to let go of things I was thinking to myself how easy it would be to let this book go without much reservation. Concept is good but delivery felt a bit repetitive. I am not sure the narrator did this book it’s justice. The narrator was not poor, just not what I had visualized and I did not take the time to listen to the sample - that is on me. Fortunately it was relatively brief as I really like to see these through if I can, but the further I got into the less I enjoyed and thought that I was getting enough value out of. Maybe the lifestyle is just to extreme for me. Maybe someone who could and would actually want to visualize themselves living this minimal it would be more appealing to.

Revisado: 01-07-18
Same good-natured narration you would expect based on the show. I thought the production could have been a bit better in the transitions, a little choppy.
Overall though, pretty inspiring, enjoyable story. Length was just right. I enjoyed and am curious how the follow-on Capital Gaines differs.

A lot of action but overall uneventful
Revisado: 09-17-17
Narration is great in this series, and this book was no different. That is fortunate, as this particular installment would have otherwise really been a bit of a flop. It seemed so disorganized, and the character development and continuity within story seemed very inconsistent. It was not horrible, but his previous work must have really set a high bar and this just did not live up to the previous. Plausibility, even by fictional standards, seemed more in line with lower tier authors.
I will continue to follow the series and just hope the next round is better.
