Historia
Magic is in a short supply for a half-witch like me, which makes things very difficult when I’m bound by a blood promise to avenge my parents. With no leads left to follow, I make a bargain with a demon for help. Bad decision. The quest the demon sends me on binds me to a vampire named Killian, a half-mad, half-naked monster who hates my guts almost as much as he longs to drink my blood.

I really enjoyed
Revisado: 07-16-23
I wasn’t sure what to expect but really enjoyed this set of books. The story was well developed and the narrators added to the overall experience.

Historia
Sometimes there's a moment when you know you've screwed up. For Camden Skinner, it's the night a dead pop star walks into his pub. As one-half of Skin, an agency which specializes in cleaning up behind the ultra-rich and infamous, Cam has gotten used to getting his hands dirty. A little too used to it. After the young singer at the center of a client's controversy is found dead, Cam decides he's out. He walks away from Skin in search of a simpler life. Maybe even a shot at redemption.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as this is a new author to me. I was very happy with what I got. Interesting story, talented narrators, a quick hot read and a different perspective of Philadelphia.

Playing with Fire; good read (solid 4.5 stars)
Revisado: 01-05-21
L.J. Shen does not disappoint in another well written book with characters that you want to get to know. I liked that the character’s stories connected. I liked that both of the characters make mistakes and do the best they can for themselves and those they love. I liked the message that beauty is beyond the cover. I liked that the relationship developed over time; made it more believable. I tend to find the whole, ‘we can’t be together for your own good and I can’t tell you all about it,’ storyline to be a bit contrived. I would much prefer to find out that both characters knew what is happening the whole time and agree on the separation or you find out it was all pretend for a period of time. If he really did treat her that way, I think she may have let him off the hook too soon. If I could rate 4.5 stars, that is what I would rate this book.
What makes a good story?
- Does the story fit the genre and expectations, based on the book blurb? Yes
- Is the story believable, if intended to be? Yes
- Was there unnecessary angst or angsty dialogue that did not add to the story? Borderline too much angst with the whole break up for your own good scenario. Didn’t last long as far as the book length and the male lead who caused the angst had to work his way back into the female lead’s heart. If I were in the female lead’s place I would have made the male lead work harder - IMHO.
- Was there realistic conflict? Between the lead characters and between the lead characters and their family, yes. I think that the conflict between the male lead and the fighter antagonist was a bit too much.
- Was the conflict resolved? Yes
- Did the story make me want to read more about the characters, from the author, from this fictional environment? Yes, I could see the stories of the two other female and male characters but not sure there is enough meat on the bone for them to deliver full books. The epilogue was able to tidy up any outstanding questions and though I would read additional stories in this environment, I don’t have a burning desire to do so.
- Was the story well written? Yes.
- Did the narrator add or become part of the story or detract from the story? The narrators were good, did not detract from the story.

Historia
When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage. But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he?

Mia does not disappoint!
Revisado: 01-03-21
I have read other Mia Sheridan books, so I had certain expectations that were met. She writes complex storylines, that intertwine the characters in ways you don’t expect. When I read her stories I connect emotionally to the characters and the storyline. I expect a twist and I am guessing throughout the story which makes it that much more enjoyable. I was not disappointed!
I really fell in love with Lucas and all his struggles as a boy, his confusion at the world, and his intelligence in figuring things out - especially as a man. I was encouraged by Harper and her struggle, honest anger at the town but drive to find her parents. The two of them are perfect for each other in many ways and it was written beautifully.
Spoilers below:
What makes a good story?
- Does the story fit the genre and expectations, based on the book blurb?
- Yes
- Is the story believable, if intended to be?
- Yes
- Was there unnecessary angst or angsty dialogue that did not add to the story?
- Not really. I was a little confused by the step-grandfather’s wife’s family, and there was not a lot of details around the Dr at the end or how the grandfather knew about Driscoll. But it was not so much that I was truly bothered by it.
- Was there realistic conflict?
- If you believe the concept for the storyline, then the conflict is also realistic. I like that there is no conflict between the main romantic characters even when there could have been angst derived from the missed calls or the letter that was left.
- Was the conflict resolved?
- Yes
- Did the story make me want to read more about the characters, from the author, from this fictional environment?
- I wanted to know more about the two other boys that were in the wilderness with Lucas… there was no closure for their stories.
- I did want to know more about Mark and his wife, after the fact… seemed like they were going to try and make things work… would be nice to have a little longer epilogue.
- Was the story well written?
- Very well-written
- Did the narrator add or become part of the story or detract from the story?
- The narrators were very good. They became part of the story, which is the best type of narrator.

Heartbreaker. Playboy. Reckless. Wild and rough. Those are just a few of the names she's called me, but I don't care as long as I get what I want - her heart. She deserves more than I can give. Problem is she's all I want. The smart thing would be to stay away. And believe me I've tried. I've kept my distance for four years...and time's up.

Nice
Revisado: 02-09-18
The storyline was good and really fit the bad boy romance motif. The characters were good and made you want them to have a happy ending. The narration was okay. I really enjoyed the combined narration between Jeffrey and Ali Peterson but their narration style was quite flat. There were parts where the narration detracted from the storyline because of the performance being inconsistent with the verbiage and scene. Overall, I’d recommend the book, it was nice.
