Historia
Guido Brunetti faces a heinous crime committed outside his jurisdiction. He is drawn in innocently enough: two young American women have been badly injured in a boating accident, joyriding in the Laguna with two young Italians. However, Brunetti's curiosity is aroused by the behavior of the young men, who abandoned the victims after taking them to the hospital. If the injuries were the result of an accident, why did they want to avoid association with it?

Donna Leon out did herself with Transient Desires. In my opinion, this is her best work to date. This series never gets stale; it just keeps getting better.

I read this book 50 years ago and it was just as enjoyable to re-read in 2019. Her writing is beautiful, her descriptions spot on and her characters live and breathe within the pages. So glad to see her work being available again for today’s audience.

Historia
It's been three months since Abi Logan last checked in on Abbey Glen, the celebrated whisky distillery she inherited. With her oversize wheaten terrier, Liam, by her side, Abi returns to the quaint Scottish village of Balfour. But her relaxing Highland homecoming takes a stressful turn when she unearths an unseemly bit of village history, welcomes a group of Japanese whisky enthusiasts, and becomes shepherdess to an unexpected flock of sheep - all within the first 24 hours. Still, nothing's more stressful than murder....

Liked the first book, but this one, not plausable
Revisado: 06-22-19
In real life a lead police detective would not be reporting all the details and his leads & suspicions in a murder case they way Inspector Michelson continuously feed Abi information on his investigation . Although I enjoyed the first book in this series, I found this story not plausible. I also find plots centered around former rock & roll legends tiresome. The author rehashes territories that have been done so many times, life on the road, drugs, booze, overdoses, sex, groupies, band break ups over women, etc. etc. All the things that worked in the first book, were missing from this outing. The Scottish history was interesting, but it was bogged down with details about secret tunnels, finding artifacts in secret panels and the discovery of an old journal in the protagonist's home; again this struck me as contrived and implausible. Also, the possible romance between Abi and Grant, the distillery manager, didn't make this lackluster read any more interesting. This series has promise if the author can capture all the elements that worked so well in the first book.

Historia
It's 1910, and Daniel Pitt is a reluctant lawyer who would prefer to follow in the footsteps of his detective father. When the biographer Russell Graves, who Daniel is helping defend, is sentenced to execution for the murder of his wife, Daniel's Pitt-family investigative instincts kick in, and he sets out to find the real killer. With only 21 days before Graves is to be executed, Daniel learns that Graves is writing a biography of Victor Narraway, the former head of Special Branch and a close friend of the Pitts. And the stories don't shed a positive light. Is it possible someone is framing Graves to keep him from writing the biography-maybe even someone Daniel knows in Special Branch? The only answer, it seems, lies in the dead woman's corpse.

Great start to a new series. Looking forward to the next book with Daniel Pitt.. It was interesting that his parents had cameo roles in this book; I would have missed them if they were left out. This proves to be an interesting new series.

Historia
Deputy sheriff Constance Kopp is outraged to see young women brought into the Hackensack jail over dubious charges of waywardness, incorrigibility, and moral depravity. The strong-willed, patriotic Edna Heustis, who left home to work in a munitions factory, certainly doesn't belong behind bars. And 16-year-old runaway Minnie Davis, with few prospects and fewer friends, shouldn't be publicly shamed and packed off to a state-run reformatory. But such were the laws - and morals - of 1916.

Mediocre
Revisado: 01-04-18
I started out liking this series, but as the books progress they seem to have lost what I envisioned for this series. The characters seem stuck doing the same things over and over. I’m not giving up on the series yet, but the plots have become predictable & stale. I’ll give the next book a try before giving up.

Historia
Mildred Lathbury is a clergyman's daughter and a mild-mannered spinster in 1950s England. She is one of those excellent women - the smart, supportive, repressed women whom men take for granted. As Mildred gets embroiled in the lives of her new neighbors - anthropologist Helena Napier; Helen's handsome, dashing husband, Rocky; and Julian Malory, the vicar next door - the novel presents a series of snapshots of human life as actually, and pluckily, lived.

Excellent story
Revisado: 09-22-16
I was delightfully surprised that this story was still able to stand up as a very interesting read despite the time it was written. It really offers great insight into the lives of single women in the early 1950s that were considered "spinsters" if they did not marry by age 30. Parts of the story were amusing, parts were touching and the social history of the time was fascinating.

His relentless focus has always been his greatest strength...and his deepest flaw.

So like so many other books about serial killers
Revisado: 11-18-15
What would have made Signature Kill better?
It the same plot story as so may other books about serial killers stalking and murdering prostitutes and dismembering their bodies.
What could David Levien have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
A fresh plot story. I didn't finish this book as I had read several other books in the genre about psycho serial killers and I had hoped for more of a solid mystery story vs. this same old plot.
What three words best describe Scott Brick’s voice?
The narrator did a fine job,
Any additional comments?
I got about half way through it and then gave it up.

Good book but terrible narrator.
Revisado: 07-22-15
What disappointed you about Aftermath?
The narrator was very annoying.
What other book might you compare Aftermath to and why?
I enjoy all the Alan Banks books in Peter Robinson's series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The way he threw his voice when it was a woman speaking made the female voices sound like "old women," Also the emotions he portrayed were often exaggerated.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story was good; I just didn't like the reader for this one.
