What if you could predict murders? What if in order to stop them, you’d have to become a murderer yourself? Is it justified? Debut author Jeff Wooten weaves a superb, non-stop YA thriller around this intriguing premise. I fell in love with the protagonist, high school senior Jude, in the first chapter. The characters are well-drawn, the pace pitch-perfect, and the ride wild. If you’re a fan of Karen McManus, you will love Kill Call. I listened to this on audiobook, and Aaron Shedlock’s narration is stellar. Highly recommend!

What would you do to avenge a loved one? What if you wouldn't get caught? What if you didn't care if you did? The 13th Step adeptly peels away the layers of this ethical dilemma from the point of view of several characters mired in their grief. Throw in COSOVO, a survivor "support" group with a deeply flawed victim at the helm, and that's when things get even more diabolical. The writing is smart, the action flows, and the characters are complex. Narrator Charles Constant is excellent in bringing Lew McCreary's dark story to life.

Any additional comments?

I love Molly Quinn on Castle, but as a narrator she is terrible! Every paragraph takes 20 minutes to get out, and for some reason her pronunciation of "the" is killing me...unfortunate because "the" occurs quite often in the story! I wasn't crazy about the narrator for the first 3 books, but after this one it makes me long for her. She also pronounces many of the words incorrectly (at least I'm assuming that's the case, as the previous narrator pronounced them differently - "stele" and "Idris" are not the same. Of course, this could be the same thing as Jim Dale saying 'Voldemor" for the first 4 HP books too...) I don't mind the male narrator as other readers do, in fact I feel a huge sense of relief when Molly Quinn's narration is over and the guy comes back on.

I loved this book...I think I loved it more because I listened to it, which isn't always the case. The narrators are absolutely perfect and the story is just as promised - super sad, but also hilarious.

I'm just not a fan of Lisa See. I've read quite a few of her books and each time I just feel - meh - at the end. I usually like the narrator, Janet Song, except she pronounced all the mandarin words incorrectly. That certainly wouldn't have been a bit deal if the book lived somewhere in the realm of compelling.
