Halfway through, I was getting anxious about the “hope.” By the end, I realized Quinones had been weaving it throughout. To be sure, you need to be an optimist to find and embrace it, but it’s there.

There are a lot people espousing early specialization in this complex world, but how is that going to work out for a generation that changes jobs as often as underwear.
This is a must read for generalists, specialists and those of us who can’t tell the difference.

Over the past few years, as I’ve dabbled in, read and heard Brother Richard, I sensed myself changing. I thought my roots in Calvanism were being infused by St. Francis. Perhaps, they were, but calling myself a Franciscan-Presbyterian now seems too clever and glib. So, I hope to spend more time practicing the divine mirror and less time practicing my religions.

Not an “Easy Listen” ...

... but one I needed to hear. Coming to terms with having been complicit, actively or passively, in racial injustice is hard for someone who would never kneel during the national anthem. This book provides teachable moments for kids from 1 to 99.

I was drawn in, drop by drop; moved to tears, drop by drop and changed, drop by drop ... as only a good novel can do. There was nothing ordinary about the experience.

It’s Worth Another Listen

Having worked in the “drug war” in varying capacities for 35 years, this book is convicting and heart-wrenching. We must do more than shake our heads and get back in the rag-tag fleet of vessels fleeing Dunkirk. Whatever we do, we cannot lose hope.
