Historia
In her international bestseller SPQR, Mary Beard told the thousand-year story of ancient Rome. Now she shines her spotlight on the emperors who ruled the Roman empire, from Julius Caesar (assassinated 44 BCE) to Alexander Severus (assassinated 235 CE). Emperor of Rome is not your usual chronological account of Roman rulers, one after another: the mad Caligula, the monster Nero, the philosopher Marcus Aurelius.

An Emperor’s life
Revisado: 10-14-24
Mary Beard delivers again! Her book takes readers through all the different facets of the Roman emperors daily life, Legacy, election, social responsibilities, and expectations. She does so in a way that is academically sound and still engaging. I love that she doesn’t go through each emperor and list off their life achievement and period they ruled. Instead she covers them all when talking about a specific subject like what emperors ate, where they live, and how their image affected the empire.
I highly recommend this book for anyone trying to educate themselves about the Emporers of Rome.

Great Ancient history
Revisado: 06-23-24
Dan Carlin tells an incredibly engaging story/historical account of the founding and fall of the Persian empire. Carlin has a great way of making you think about the human experience of history and what it must’ve been like to actually go through these times. This is one of the first series that I fell in love with. Highly recommended World War I series as well.

another good installment
Revisado: 05-15-24
Another dark, bloody chapter in the Civil War of the Society. This is an intense one, folks. It is a series marked by betrayals and graphic torture. This one makes a case for the most intense. Excellent character development and you start to love some of the newer generations as they walk through the furnace to become the leaders you know they will be in the series.

Great steam punk medieval fantasy story
Revisado: 04-12-24
This is a very enjoyable war fantasy story. The main character is your typical hard nose, do what must be done, damn the book type with depth. The motley cast are diverse and well written. The book’s universe is rich but not gone into at a detrimental rate. Definitely will check out the next installment and would recommend to anyone that likes the genre. Finally love the narrator and enjoy most of the books he narrate.

Another good one
Revisado: 03-31-24
It's another excellent installment in the Ciaphas Cain series. A pho from the past shows up to make a great villain. The Amberly is in this one, too, and Cane is with the 597th, which makes this one of my favorites in the series.

Solid follow up
Revisado: 01-11-24
The follow-up installation on the Olympian Trials is delightful. Butcher's building is on point, and the story and character arcs are compelling.
The only downside is Butcher’s tendency to over-describe and ramble on, belaboring points previously made in detail.
Overall, it's a great listen, and I recommend picking it up if you enjoyed the first book.

Solid Fantasy Tale
Revisado: 09-19-23
The universe is set in a medieval chivalric code setting. Throw in a little Hindu reincarnation cast system, and you’ve got the basic idea. Characters are dynamic, though jumping from five different points of view was a little chaotic. Every time you start to connect with the character flow, the narrative, a jump to another one.
Overall, it is a good story, with solid world-building, and surprisingly vicious combat and politics—a solid B+.

Wow. I was not expecting anything special even after reading all the reviews, but what a great book.
Smith drops you directly end of the world when we’re every second. It’s a struggle to continue to survive for all of humanity. He does an excellent job of connecting you emotionally to the characters and getting you to invest in them winning. He’s got it describing struggle in the face of hopelessness, which I think has a particular modern relevance. Can’t wait to read the second one. RC Brey does a great job, as always. I’ll pretty much listen to anything he does.

Revisado: 10-29-22
An epic tale about the first Englishman to make contact with the Japanese. Covell paints a rich world full of deep tradition, cultural structure, and violence. Highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys medieval fiction or just a great story in general. Ralph Lister brings the book to life with his narration and I’ll definitely be looking up more of his books.
