As they raise their son, Olivier, they hold on to a tenuous promise for the future. Until the thunder of war sets off alarms in France. Staying behind to join the resistance, Giles sends Madeleine and Olivier to the relative safety of England, where Madeleine secures a job teaching French at a secondary school. Yet nowhere is safe. Sad but wonderful story.
Revisado: 12-16-23
Rhys Bowen always presents a realistic portrayal with enough detail to understand the story, but manages it with an appropriate amount of restraint. I don’t need the intimate, gruesome details of a rape to appreciate the horror. Ms. Bowen is adept at telling a meaningful story with a sensitive touch. She is definitely one of my favorite authors.

Historia
Tiffy and Leon share an apartment. Tiffy and Leon have never met. After a bad breakup, Tiffy Moore needs a place to live. Fast. And cheap. But the apartments in her budget have her wondering if astonishingly colored mold on the walls counts as art. Desperation makes her open minded, so she answers an ad for a flatshare. Leon, a night shift worker, will take the apartment during the day, and Tiffy can have it nights and weekends. He'll only ever be there when she's at the office. In fact, they'll never even have to meet.

This is not for beginners
Revisado: 12-05-16
What disappointed you about Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, Volume 2?
This is very difficult to follow and there is no help or references.
What could Olly Richards have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It would be nice to have a written book to refer to and/or an english synopsis of the stories in case the listener was having difficulty understand. My spanish professor
warned me and she was right.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Susana Larraz?
Narrator was fine.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, Volume 2?
I didn't understand enough to be able to comment on this.

Performer needs to learn to pronounce Nevada correctly
Revisado: 08-03-16
When the majority of the story takes place in Nevada, you would think someone would make certain the pronunciation was correct. Listening to the narrator pronouncing my home state was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Otherwise it was fine.

Historia
In a rose garden in Buenos Aires, an unnamed American spy meets the beautiful daughter of a famous Argentinean revolutionary. He becomes infatuated, and so does she. But he is no ordinary spy - he is an off-the-books lone wolf who spent his first five years working for "Headquarters", hunting terrorists in the Middle East. Unbeknownst to his lenient handlers, he is loyal to a hidden agenda: to avenge his father, who was laughed out of Headquarters many years before and died a beggar.

Entertaining but....
Revisado: 12-28-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Mulberry Bush to be better than the print version?
There were several mispronunciations that I found distracting. Oregon is Ory-gun NOT Ory-gone.

Could have been great.
Revisado: 12-08-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It got a little far-fetched. I love the stories of a women being down but recovering against the odds. I loved the parts about baking bread, taking care of honey bees and fishing but when it got into the crazy wild gazillionaire and the Star Wars wedding I lost interest. I also didn't like the narrator's southern accent. It's a book. I would rather listen to the same voice than a bad attempt to sound like a man, or worse a southern man.
Would you recommend Little Beach Street Bakery to your friends? Why or why not?
No. Because of the above comments.
Would you be willing to try another one of Veida Dehmlow’s performances?
Maybe.
Did Little Beach Street Bakery inspire you to do anything?
Bake bread. I just finished making my 4th loaf. :)

Historia
From spring to summer, autumn to winter, a lot can happen in a single year.... Tilly Parker needs a fresh start, fresh air, and a fresh attitude if she is ever to leave the past behind and move on with her life. As she seeks out peace and quiet in a new town, taking on a plot at Ivy Lane allotments seems like the perfect solution. But the friendly Ivy Lane community has other ideas and gradually draw Tilly in to their cosy, comforting world of planting seedlings, organizing bake sales, and planning seasonal parties.
