Rapidly moving adventure
Revisado: 02-07-23
The story - another Mrs. Pollifax adventure - was my favorite so far. The narrator delivered the tale with just the right voice for each situation, enhancing the excitement or seriousness of the scene. I love the details of the environment, some of which I had visited myself. I recommended this story for a truly enjoyable read.

Historia
In 1982, Sue Grafton introduced us to Kinsey Millhone. Thirty years later, Kinsey is an established international icon and Sue, a number-one best-selling author. To mark this anniversary year, Sue has given us stories that reveal Kinsey’s origins and Sue’s past. Kinsey and Me has two parts: The nine Kinsey stories (1986-93), each a gem of detection; and the And Me stories, written in the decade after Grafton's mother died. Together, they show just how much of Kinsey is a distillation of her creator’s past.

interesting perspective
Revisado: 04-19-21
I bought this because I have devoured every Sue Grafton adventure available and shared them with countless friends. This was not what I expected... it was depressing and choppy, hard to sit through without saying "I have something else better or more satisfying to do." I did, however, finish it, more to honor the author than because I enjoyed the book.
Judy Kaye read quite well, making it easier to listen to.

Historia
There's nothing like a good deli, and the Red River Deli in Trenton is one of the best. World-famous for its pastrami, cole slaw, and for its disappearing managers. Over the last month, three have vanished from the face of the earth, and the only clue in each case is one shoe that's been left behind. The police are baffled. Lula is convinced that it's a case of alien abduction. Whatever it is, they'd better figure out what's going on before they lose their new manager, Ms. Stephanie Plum.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Amazing and moving
Revisado: 07-12-17
Would you listen to Born a Crime again? Why?
Yes - I was aware of and thought I "knew" the details about South African apartheid. I couldn't have been more wrong about the knowing. How Trevor Noah turned into the person he is today is astounding, and even more admirable. We should all read this, especially in light of today's issues with race and liberty.
What does Trevor Noah bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It's his story, and he is the best of story tellers. If you listen to his show on Comedy Central, you realize that it is his delivery that brings all news up several notches. The same is true here.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several: having to walk on opposite sides of the street from his father, being saved by his mother by being pushed out of a moving car, and hearing his mother, who was supported in her life by her belief in God, describe how he had been a gift to her from Jesus by becoming the man that he was!
Any additional comments?
This should be required reading for anyone who thinks they understand what freedom is.

Great next step for Amos
Revisado: 09-12-16
Would you be willing to try another book from David Baldacci? Why or why not?
I have tried most of his series, and wait for the next in each series with bated breath...
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Having obviously read the book - he is listening to himself, I hope - he should have realized that it is not likely that Amos would have sounded like a sappy 12-year old. That was really distracting!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. We listen while driving, and actually took the "long way" several times to be able to hear more of the story.

Historia
Two dead bodies changed the course of my life that fall. One of them I knew and the other I'd never laid eyes on until I saw him in the morgue. The first was a local PI of suspect reputation. He'd been gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. It looked like a robbery gone bad. The other was on the beach six weeks later. He'd been sleeping rough. Probably homeless. No identification. A slip of paper with Millhone's name and number was in his pants pocket. The coroner asked her to come to the morgue to see if she could ID him.

Winner of the 1961 Hugo Award for Best Novel and widely considered one of the most accomplished, powerful, and enduring classics of modern speculative fiction, Walter M. Still doing ourselves in...
Revisado: 05-17-13
Where does A Canticle for Leibowitz rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This audio book is a good deal. The recording is well done, given the complications of the story. I first read this story when I was in college, and we were not too far past the Bay of Pigs. It seemed more realistic and yet fascinating at the time. This time around, I have seen too many repeats on the part of so-called civilization to do itself in. I found it much sadder. It is a well written book, and the premise continues to capture the imagination.
Would you recommend A Canticle for Leibowitz to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, but with some precursor statement about the content.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The gilded reproduction of the blueprint was a perfect example of how a uninformed group of people can make something out of nothing. The fact that the thieves took the reproduction instead of the original says something about the human fascination with bling!I was also torn by the choice of the mother to end her life and the life of her child rather than deal with the pain of radiation poisoning.
