Historia
When Fiona Lawson comes home to find strangers moving into her house, she's sure there's been a mistake. She and her estranged husband, Bram, have a modern coparenting arrangement: bird's nest custody, where each parent spends a few nights a week with their two sons at the prized family home to maintain stability for their children. But the system built to protect their family ends up putting them in terrible jeopardy. In a domino effect of crimes and misdemeanors, the nest comes tumbling down.

Tedious

I managed to get through just because I hate to leave a book unfinished, but it was a struggle. The characters were not believable and showed little emotion, especially considering the circumstances of their lives. All in all, too depressing to wade through.

Great storyline. January LaVoy is my favorite narrator. She brings life to each character. Nora Roberts delivers time and again.

Not only do Southerners talk slowly, but sometimes the whole language is hard to understand. No one realizes that more than Memphis belle Leelee Satterfield. Watching her tackle life and love in Vermont was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to antics, charades, mischief, and romance. Now that she’s back in Memphis, and starting a new relationship with Peter, the Yankee chef from her New England inn, you’d think she’d sit back and enjoy her newly crafted life back home in Dixie. But that just wouldn’t be as much fun.

Would make a fun Hallmark series
Revisado: 05-29-23
The narration was most disappointing. The only improvement was Kissy’s mmm, mmm, mmm. Peter’s voice was off and Roberta’s was nasally irritating. Also, naming the male dog Roberta was just plain stupid. The 3 girlfriends reminded me of Donna’s friends from Mamma Mia, a refreshing addition to the cast of characters. Would have liked to end with the wedding instead of oohing and ahhing over a moose head. At least he got a boy’s name. First two books were far more entertaining.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Once you get to part 2, the story really takes off. The narrator, however, leaves much to be desired. Her distinct accent carries across all the characters (except Enzo).

Historia
Jimmy Lee Hickam grew up along Red Dog Road, a dead-end strip of gravel and mud buried deep in the bowels of Appalachian Ohio. It is the poorest road, in the poorest county, in the poorest region of the state. To make things worse, the name Hickam is synonymous with trouble. Jimmy Lee hails from a heathen mix of thieves, moonshiners, drunkards, and general anti-socials that for decades have clung to both the hardscrabble hills and the iron bars of every jail cell in the region. This life, Jimmy Lee believes, is his destiny, someday working with his drunkard father at the sawmill, or sitting next to his arsonist brother in the penitentiary.

A New Steele
Revisado: 03-02-22
This is the first novel by Danielle Steele that I’ve “read” in decades, and I have to say that I was impressed by the new maturity I saw in her writing. The story was intriguing, every step of the way. It was a journey I was pleased to take. The narration was excellent. All in all, a lovely escape from my day to day.

Historia
Flynn Merriam has it all: A glamorous job he loves, a model in every port, and loads of siblings he adores. Turning the big 3-0 shouldn’t be a big deal, but suddenly he’s questioning everything. There’s got to be more to life than fun and diversion, right? Annie Loudermilk’s life hasn’t turned out the way she wanted. She’d planned to travel the world as a sought-after makeup artist, but when she found herself unexpectedly pregnant, everything took a different track. Now she’s a single mom, living in a small town, making and selling her own cosmetic line.

A better read than a listen.
Revisado: 02-04-21
While I’m drawn to the Merriam clan and all their escapades, I find some of the conversations a bit stilted, or perhaps that’s just the way they’re being read. The inflections would have “sounded “ in my mind more casual and less wooden. For example, when Flynn tells Annie that he’s going to kiss her, it had all the romantic flavor of a grade school boy attempting his first foray into the world of boy-girl relationships. It’s just my opinion that the author is far better than the narrator, and that’s a shame. I will, of course, listen to the final chapter of the Merriams, but I will hope that Ava Miles finds a new narrator for future storylines.

Historia
In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love.... When DC lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother's wedding, she's dragging a lot of baggage along with her - and she doesn't mean suitcases. Betrayed personally and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That's fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue.

A pleasant story.
Revisado: 12-24-20
The storyline was nicely paced, having no extreme highs or lows, which made it a calm and peaceful listen. However, the performance was lacking diversity. Most of the female characters sounded alike. A more skilled narrator would have greatly improved the listen.
