Epic, different, refreshing. A must read!

As an avid reader, I must say that this is one of the best fiction books that I have ever read. It's JK Rowling good! Royals, romance, laughs, political intrigue, action and drama. It has it all. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Conservatives Beware

I have been an SEP fan since discovering her in 1993. I have bought, read, and listened to everything she has ever written. I love her as an author, and she has been an auto-buy for me for decades.

This book hurt me. It was like finding out someone I have loved for a long time, secretly hates me. It displayed Christians with every negative characteristics, in the basest caricature imaginable. It was like a political cartoon where the Yankee liberal comes to teach the ignorant Southerns the error of their ways. The townsfolk are portrayed in the meanest terms, ignorant, backward, unlikable. The MC's are self righteous, with zero chemistry, the love story is tepid, and the entire thing when it was not insulting was boring. It was with a heavy heart, I returned this title.

Just Odd

Unfortunately, this went into my DNF category. The snippet on Audible was amazing, but well, that was the best part of the book. I think the oddest thing was first and third person present tense. Present tense is not as powerful as past, and it was terribly distracting. Also, the failure of the production company to let the two narrators work together was completely off putting. When the female is reading, she does the male voice, and it was just terrible. The story is unbelievable. The oversexed rake falls in love with his cleaner? Um... no. It just did not work. I will give Dominic Thorburn credit though, he is exceptional.

Lady Leigh Strachan is a practical, methodical and level-headed lady who wants nothing to do with the fantastical world that the legendary Prince of Midnight is determined to draw her into.

Nicholas Bolton is absolutely superb, the voices, the accents, the acting - oh, be still my heart...

There is a particular scene with a stolen horse and feigned roaring drunk that will have you laughing out loud.

Laura Kinsale is by far my favorite historic romance novelist. I love every single one of her books, this one is just special. Sweet, tender, funny... worthy of a credit!

One of the Greatest Characters Ever Written!

Captain Sheridan Drake is a character for the ages! Amazing, complex, funny, tender, brave, but with a past. Dashing and cruel, a black-hearted rogue that you root for so much that it hurts. Olympia... a soft plump pampered princess that is ridiculously naive and self-centered but it works! I adored this story! It's not sunshine and roses but there is plenty of banter, humor, and light-hearted exchanges to keep it from being a drag. I loved it.

Our heroine is no wilting flower either, strong, and intelligent Elana is equal to the task of rescuing her lost kingdom and her lost hero.
