Historia
For most, Bayfield is a quaint, unassuming harbor town. For some, the decades-old headlines alleging unexplainable sightings of strange creatures in the water tell a different story. For a select few, the truth behind these legends, speculations, and folklore is more than a mere mystery: There’s magic in the bay.

Fun, humorous adventure
Revisado: 11-01-23
This book was so much fun. The author (who also narrated the book) did a fantastic job of bringing his characters to life. I laughed out loud several times while listening and found the smaller stories wove together nicely into one larger tale.

Historia
Few people know the name Vesper Quill. To most folks, I’m just a lowly lab rat who designs brewmakers and other household appliances in the research-and-development lab at the powerful Kent Corp. But when I point out a design flaw and a safety hazard in the new line of Kent Corp spaceships, everyone knows who I am—and wants to eliminate me. I might be a seer with a photographic memory, but I don’t see the trouble headed my way until it’s too late. Suddenly, I’m surrounded by enemies and fighting for my life.

my kind of scifi
Revisado: 12-20-22
I can't wait for the next one. I love the world, the blend of tech and magic, the romance, and the promise of what's in store for future books. The world is vivid, and the intrigue and plotting kept be hooked the whole way through. The book ends with a great question that leaves me wanting more (not a cliffhanger at all).

Historia
For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

I love this series so much. Well written as I got some answers to old questions and have new questions and predictions. Pacing is great. There is a good mix of action and exposition. The characters continue to grow and remain interesting and cone alive.

Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Revisado: 06-30-22
Love the voice of MC. Wheaton is great as always. The creativity and flippancy of this one was just perfect. It's like Jurassic Park but a little ridiculous and I love that about it. Heartily recommend, especially if you like Scalzi's other funny stuff like Redshirts or Agent to the Stars.

Historia
Emma Boone thought her dream job as the new Chief of Security on Lumina Station was going to be easy. She didn’t expect corruption, incompetence, and murder. Lumina was a “small-town” space station orbiting above an isolated, quiet, agri-colony planet specializing in exporting wheat, corn, bourbon, and a few other interesting, unusual commodities. When she took the job, she thought a small station with a tiny population of just over 4,000 people would be quiet compared to her last post.

Intense scifi mystery
Revisado: 04-10-22
Murder mystery on a space station! I liked the main character Emma Boone because she was competent and likable, and the supporting cast was full of interesting characters and villains. I also thought the space station setting was well done. There were a lot of great questions that kept me listening. I read this as an ebook first, and I think the narrator did a great job bringing Emma to life, and I found that I caught things in the audio version I missed while reading. The pacing was great and I enjoyed uncovering secret motives, betrayals, etc as I kept reading. As with all of the stories Wilsey has set in this universe, there are ample twists and turns to keep the reader entertained. This is my favorite of his books so far.

Sherman Holmes has officially settled into his new city, and the World's Greatest Detective Agency has opened its doors. Now, the new duo must investigate a local "haunted" tourist site where the scares are going off-script and otherworldly interference is suspected.

Solid second installment. This book was so fun. A whacky haunted house was the perfect setting for this mystery, and I can't wait to continue this series. The narration was fantastic and truly brought Hayes' already vivid characters to life.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Loved the science behind caffeine and addicting pollinators. The premise of caffeine making the modern world possible was clickbaity, but the author kind of acknowledges it. This was a short and engaging listen.

Historia
They hunt us. They bomb our worlds for target practice. A star cluster in the constellation of Orion rotates once every 1,000 years. Those who rule there have an ancient tradition: When each cycle ends, they train their fleets by spilling the blood of lesser beings. The enemy fleets are coming again. In response, the Rebel Worlds gather their starships to face the terrifying threat, and this time humanity is asked to stand with them. The last time they considered Earth, Vikings in longboats were raiding English coastlines. Today, we're less primitive. Today, we're a target.

A meh read
Revisado: 04-09-20
I read mostly scifi, but this was my first by Larson.
I enjoyed the premise and the narrator, but I had a lot of issues with the book.
I'm a woman, and of the 4 significant female characters, 3 were attracted to the protagonist Leo Blake, even the enemy captain. On top of being a man with needs that all the women wanted, he magically could do anything and everything perfectly, or get so lucky his "failures" turned out to be just the needed action/response/etc. This book had me rolling my eyes at all the happy coincidences. I found this, coupled with the blah female characters who all wanted to sleep with Blake, annoying.
The book wasn't terrible, and I finished it, but I did find myself wishing it was over sooner.

Sales is a skill anyone can learn and master - and introverts are especially good at it once they learn how to leverage their natural strengths. Introverts aren't comfortable with traditional tactics like aggressively pushing a product or talking over a customer's objections. That's the beauty of The Introvert's Edge: it doesn't focus on the sale itself but on a sales system that helps introverts feel sincere instead of sales-y.

Still felt scammy to me
Revisado: 09-14-18
This guy tries to market his techniques as sincere, but they didn't feel that way to me. I guess sales is always pushy, whether it's explicit or manipulative. The introvert's "edge" definitely just felt like gentler manipulation of customers to me.
These tactics don't seem new, but I came to this book with no sales experience. These techniques are definitely usable and would probably yield results, so it's a useful book in that sense.
