Delicious & Satisfying
Revisado: 01-08-25
I love this trilogy and so far this book is my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the intricate back stories of many of our Dune characters, and uncovering the mysterious events that led to why things are they way they are in Dune.

Tying up loose ends
Revisado: 02-21-24
I enjoyed this anthology of side stories that took place in the world of The Expanse. It was cathartic and even shed light on the history or the future outcome of some of the characters that popped in and out of the Expanse main series. I love how it ended with the last story leaving one character's journey to the reader's imagination. Bravo James S.A. Corey

Top notch Sci Fi series! A must read
Revisado: 01-30-24
What an enjoyable 9-book adventure it has been! Since embarking on this adventure, I've felt like I've traveled worlds with this rough and tumble crew of characters and we've shared a lifetime of laughs, tears and awe at the wonders of the universe, while battling wars in space and also within ourselves and dealing with family, love and loss. This last book left me with a sense of catharsis. I didn't want the ride to end, but at least when it did, it felt satisfying to me.

A collection of separately haunting stories
Revisado: 01-10-24
When i picked up this book, under the impression that it was solely a Holly Gibney story, i had no idea it was actually an anthology of different short stories, each of them haunting in their own unique way. Some stories were creepy and others were poignant and brought tears.
Stephen King's author note at the end explaining his personal connection and history behind each story, finally ties them altogether and i decided that overall, I adored this book in its entirety.

Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.

A warm apocalypse story with a dog
Revisado: 07-12-23
I picked up this book because of the title. I love dogs and I love the reference to stars and astronomy, but had no clue what the story would be about. I was surprised by the apocalyptic setting. In essence, it's a journey of a man and his dog, navigating America, as well as the lonely peaks and valleys of the soul.

SK brings opens the door to more new worlds!
Revisado: 12-19-22
This book started out as a very emotional story of family and with Hallmark/Lifetime movie feels that later gives a Game of Thrones, Squid Games, Hunger Games and Walking Dead vibes, while lots of nods to Jung, Lovecraft, Grimm , Andersen and Disney fairytales. The narrators were fantastic and I love how SK voices one of the characters so convincingly! so enjoyable!!

continuation of the original Solar Clipper series
Revisado: 04-21-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Note - I would advise to read the first 6 books of the previous series before continuing to this one.. as i feel it would be a more enriching experience, being there's a lot of back story prior this book. Being a fan of the original series, I am so happy that the journey of Ishmael Horatio Wong has continues in these next set of books. Although i will miss author Nathan Lowell's voice, the narrator for this book did it justice and kept the pace going.
What other book might you compare In Ashes Born to and why?
This style of writing in this book is similar to other coming of age novels. there is not much climax and very low key, but instead you are drawn in by the character's daily activities and challenges, trying to rebuild his life and getting his situation organized. for me it's very calming and engaging even though it's not adrenaline or emotionally charged as other books. I would compare it to the first book of Nathan Lowell, Captain's Share.
What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I liked his tone of voice, inflections, accents, which brought life to the characters' dialogue and narration.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
When money is no longer a hindrance, what would you choose to do with your life?
Any additional comments?
Read the first 6 books before starting this book!

Revisado: 12-29-16
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. At first it reminded me of PS I love you, but the ending had a different twist. it delivers hope after tragedy and loss and I felt uplifted after reading it. the story reminds us how fragile life is and how each moment is so fleeting, so it's ever more important to tell your loved ones how much you appreciate them before it's too late.
