Historia
Look, I’ve never claimed to be a nice guy. I don’t do pretty words, I don’t give polite smiles, and I refuse to be sucked into the sappy bucket of sentimentality that is Christmas in small-town O’Leary. Smiling neighbors, overly decorated trees, a town parade, a Santa contest? Ho ho no. I do shifts as a firefighter, and I go home alone.

4 hits and 1 miss...
Revisado: 03-03-20
I love the O'Leary series, except for some of the graphic scenes, it reminds me of audio hallmark movies... something I would love to see. This one in particular had potential to be a great Christmas chapter in the O'Leary saga, but it was a miss for me. The performance was outstanding as usual, but again, as others have said, the author has to know their audience and introducing kids into this type of story is cringe for a couple of reasons. Although it is suppose to humanize and move the plot along.. there were scenes in there (tea party for one) that were way uncomfortable and awkward. the other mood breaker are the voices, child voices are hard to narrate, I have yet to listen to a performer who can do it successfully... and in this case, the child had way too much focus for the story, and also did not talk like a child. Overall, the good parts still make this one worth the listen. But I really hope future stories will be mindful of who is actually interested in these stories and adapt to that.

Wasn't Roped In
Revisado: 05-03-19
I enjoyed book one more. I admire the narrator's ability to create such distinct voices for the hero's of the story... but sometimes his emphasis is off.... story wise I didnt find the Avery character to be the least bit likable. the family stuff was done very well.

Historia
Daniel Mulligan is tough, snarky, and tattooed, hiding his self-consciousness behind sarcasm. Daniel has never fit in - not at home in Philadelphia with his auto mechanic father and brothers, and not at school where his Ivy League classmates looked down on him. Now, Daniel's relieved to have a job at a small college in Holiday, Northern Michigan, but he's a city boy through and through, and it's clear that this small town is one more place he won't fit in.

a lovely fairytale
Revisado: 12-13-18
overall, I really enjoyed it for its romance and its setting, some issues with the story itself, the main character wasn't very relatable and quite self centered, if you are going to have a one perspective hero of the story, he should be likeable. The love interest was fantastic for pure fantasy, maturity wise, the two were incompatible. Performance, well, the voice was good, able to create unique tones for each, but the pacing and something about the delivery was a bit off.
Still I recommend this book and look forward to the next.

Historia
In 1930, William Haines was Hollywood's #1 box-office draw - a talented, handsome, and wisecracking romantic lead. Off screen, however, protected by a careful collaboration between studio and press, he was openly gay with reporters and studio chiefs alike. Here is Haines's virtually unknown story - rich with detail, revelations, and scandal - about silent movies and talkies; his lover Jimmie Shields, and their fifty-year relationship.

really enjoyed this view to the past. much of the narrative felt like speculation... but it was plausible enough that the underlying theme resonated with me. I recommend this book.

Keeping it Fresh!
Revisado: 02-14-14
What made the experience of listening to Ex-Purgatory the most enjoyable?
I have to say, I'm a bit biased as superheroes and zombies are two of my favorite genres. What I have been enjoying the most about this series is that they all tie so nicely together, peripheral characters come to the front and front line characters aren't over used just for the sake of keeping their presence in the mythology. Each book adds to the other and each book also has it's own fresh new perspective. Compelling, likable heroes and villains. Great job.
What did you like best about this story?
What I enjoyed most about this chapter was utilizing Christian in the way the author did. We all know someone annoying in our lives, But we still can appreciate their place in our lives. Its odd to say considering this genre, but it is so relatable.
What does Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I have come to associate Jay Snyder with some of the voices in the series, I do agree with the other reviewers that bringing back the other voice talents makes the story fuller.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I enjoy the relationship between Saint George and Stealth a lot. Its really the tent pole of the whole series.
Any additional comments?
I recommend this series to anyone looking to be truly entertained.
