The deets: M/F, dark romance, instalove/instaobsession, he falls first, second chance, strong FMC x possessive MMC, Cat + Mouse spin-off novella

📖 I read the Cat + Mouse duet at the beginning of 2023 and loved it! When I found out we were getting Molly’s story I was thrilled! Do I wish this was a full length novel? Yes… but I always want more words from HD Carlton. I’ve always been a little hesitant with novellas because so much has to be packed into so few pages — I tend to love a long book lol. And let me say this is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, novella I’ve read. Molly’s early life is absolutely heartbreaking. HD had a firm grip on my emotions as she beautifully delivered Molly’s story of pain, grief, perseverance, and strength. Cage, our MMC, battled his own demons in life before developing a skill set and using it in a way to help others, like Molly, find peace. His kindness and compassion combined with his absolute and instant obsession with Molly and possessive tendencies were quite the panty melting combo.
And y’all the epilogues were everything!the first one had me crying like a baby and the second was the treat we all wanted! Prepare yourself for wonderfully executed time jumps, hot AF scenes, interesting use of pigs, and very limited overlap with the C + M world. Oh, and check the content/trigger warnings if you need to!

🎧 I wanted to dive in and read this the moment it released on ebook, but ultimately decided to wait for audio since that’s my preference and I’m glad I waited because it was fantastic! Michelle Sparks is absolutely one of my favorite female narrators and she consistently slays in HD Carlton books — this was no exception! She brought Molly to life showcasing her incredible talent to deliver a wide range of emotions that I feel right to my bones.
I think this was the first time I’ve listened to Sebastian York perform dark romance and he was excellent as Cage! He was harsh and authoritative in some moments and tender and warm in others, the expression of both, and everything in between, keeping me fully immersed in the story.
I highly recommend giving this duet audio a listen!

Publisher: Dreamscape Media
Narrators: CJ Bloom + JF Harding
Narration type: dual
Writing perspective: first person, dual POV
Standard length: 9:50
Listening speed: 1.9x
Listened via: Audible

Tropes: billionaire, workplace, alpha hero, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, one bed

📖 I can always count on Marni to bring the heat and wowww this one was hot 🔥🔥🔥 Cooper, the middle brother of the Spades, heads to check out a potential hotel site and gets stuck when a blizzard moves in. But he meets a beautiful woman that he has instant chemistry with — Rowan. What he doesn’t know at the time is that she is Rowan Cole, of the Cole family — the Spade’s biggest rivals in the hotel world. And they soon find themselves working closer than expected… can these rivals put the past behind them and let chemistry and feelings guide the present?
This might be my favorite Marni book to date! I just loved Cooper and Rowan and them navigating their family dynamics. The rivals part was entertaining, but watching them then become so supportive of each other was the best! And you’re definitely in for a few surprises that I absolutely loved!

🎧 CJ Bloom and JF Harding did a great job in this audio! It was such a fun listen! CJ was perfectly cast as Rowan — she has a medium to deep pitch voice with a sultry sound and really packs an emotional punch. JF Harding is definitely one of my new favorite male narrators! He was fabulous as Cooper with his medium pitch voice and generally playful tone that can slip into slightly growly alpha. He absolutely nails the spicey scenes every single time! If you’re looking for a spicy, billionaire romance with great narration — give this a listen!

Narrators: Samantha Brentmoor + Connor Crais
Narration type: dual
Standard length: 8:37
Listening speed: 1.7x

Tropes: small town, forbidden, ex’s best friend, roommates to lovers, tragic past, he falls first, it’s always been you, angsty

📖 This book was absolutely incredible and I probably won’t stop raving about it for a long time. I loved The Summer We Fell and I didn’t think I could love a book in this series more, but wow, Elizabeth really blew me away with this one. I don’t want to get into too much of the story, because it’s really something you just need to experience, but I’ll say that you should check out the content warnings because there are some tough topics. We meet Kate and Beck in the second book the series and Kate definitely didn’t come across the best, though it was clear she had been through some stuff. This book is a story of redemption, forgiveness, understanding, pain, and ultimately finding that person who loves and accepts all parts of you, even the not so pretty ones. Kate and Beck are everything. I shed quite a few tears over this one. It was beautiful and also heartbreaking at times. This is one of those books I will accept absolutely no criticism on, so if you didn’t love it, so don’t tell me. If you have anything negative to say about Kate, don’t tell me 😘✌🏻

🎧 Samantha and Connor were absolutely breathtaking in this duet narration. Their voices are so well suited for each other, and with duet narration especially, that really makes for an exceptional listening experience. Samantha’s voice is like some kind of emotional conduit — whatever emotion she’s expressing just flows directly into me. Her performance as Kate was one of my favorite I’ve heard yet, she absolutely nailed Kate’s strength, guilt, intelligence, conniving, and longing for a love of her own. Connor sounded incredible as Beck, he brought this man bun rocking, surfer, bar tender, and man in love with his best friend’s ex to life. The two of them had amazing banter that sounded like they were sitting together in the same room, so bravo to production on this one!

Narrators: Hannah Hedley + Lucas Webley
Narration type: duet
Standard length: 6:21
Listening speed: 1.6x

Tropes: dark, why choose, serial unaliver, touch them and ☠️, prep school, criminal underground, reverse age gap

📖 This was a dark and twisted read that I absolutely devoured! Viola is my new girl crush — she’s an absolute bad ass! As a contract unaliver, she’s sent undercover into a prep school to take out a student that happens to be the son of one of the city’s criminal overlords. But she is immediately drawn to him… and two of his friends. As a girl with absolutely no feelings… in general or for anyone, this is odd for her. Before she can take care of the job she feels the need to investigate a bit further and uncovers much more than she bargained for. There are twists and turns and hanging threads that are yet to be pulled. This is quite dark, so please check the TW. And this is not a standalone — so be prepared for this to end on a cliffy! I can’t wait to dive into the next book when the audio comes out!

🎧 I REALLY enjoyed this audio! It was the last audio I listened to in 2023 and it made its way into my top 23 audiobooks of ‘23!
Lucas Webley is one of my favs and he crushed it as usual. He can do so many different accents perfectly, making him such a great narrator for why choose. In this book he voiced multiple MMCs with unique British accents — I won’t begin to try to describe where they each sounded like they’re from since that’s not my region of the world. But I will say I could tell that each character sounded different, some a little more posh sounding than others. And he does a fantastic job with pacing and emotion, really keeping me engaged throughout.
This was my first time listening to Hannah Hedley and I was impressed. She did have a different British accent than I’ve heard before but I enjoyed it! At first I thought her narration sounded a little emotionless, but then I thought more about the character she was portraying and it was absolute perfection. Viola doesn’t experience human emotion like others and often describes feeling nothing, so that vocal performance was spot on. But don’t worry, you absolutely won’t be listening to a monotone performance, she is fantastic!

Producer: One Night Stand
Narrators: Samantha Brentmoor + Ryan Hudson
Narration type: dual
Standard length: 9:43
Listening speed: 1.7x

Tropes: small town, single dad, found family, love at first sight, unrequited love

📖 It’s the end. While I absolutely could not be happier with this book and how Devney tied up everything, I am so sad to say goodbye to these beloved characters. This book had such a different feel to the others, yet it still had everything you want in a book about the Edens! It was by far the most emotional for me, I was a crying mess a few different times. I really felt for Vera and everything she had been through, and then to pine for a man on top of it... I just wanted to squeeze her tight. I don’t always like unrequited love stories, but WOW, this one I not only liked I freaking loved it. Mateo Eden is next level, friends. If you’re looking for a man to support you, care for you, and worship you, this is the one! Bonus points to him for being a great son, brother, and father. Vera and Mateo’s relationship with his daughter was absolutely precious. And if you’re worried you won’t see the rest of the family, don’t be. Devney treated us to just the right amount of Eden family gatherings, sprinkling in some Easter eggs from past books. Absolutely loved it and if you haven’t already, pick this up!!

🎧 Samantha Brentmoor was the perfect pick for Vera. She has the voice, style, and skill for roles that have a lot of emotion and pain. Her voice has an incredibly natural cadence that makes you feel like your best friend is talking to you. That along with her breathy timbre and high impact emotional delivery have made her one of my very favorite narrators and this performance was one of her best!
This was my first time listening to Ryan Hudson. His dialogue voice fit Mateo well, it is medium in pitch and some rasp to it while not being too deep or harsh. He did well with showing emotions in the dialogue parts for both Mateo and Vera. However, the narrator/internal monologue parts felt a bit off to me at times. The transitions were clear which is always helpful, but his cadence and inflection didn’t sound as natural to me, having somewhat of a sing song pattern. These portions lacked the clear emotion that came through in his dialogue as well. Overall his voice was really nice to listen to and he did fantastic during dialogue!

Tropes: small town, single mom, single dad, love after loss, fake dating

📖 I really enjoyed this second book in the series that follows Grady and his young son, and Addison and her young daughter, both after losing their spouses unexpectedly several years earlier. They find each other making a deal to fake date but soon realize they enjoy each other’s company and have chemistry that is off the charts. Ooo baby! Corinne turned up the heat in this one! The intimacy and spice between Addison and Grady was absolute perfection. Watching them become vulnerable with each other and the idea of love, after a heartbreaking loss in the past, was beautiful. And their kiddos were precious!
I have read all of Corinne’s backlist except for Rose Canyon at this point, and while this is definitely considered a standalone I do kind of wish I had read Rose Canyon first. It felt like there was more history and backstory I would have appreciated had I read it first and I love how Corinne ties in characters from other series.

🎧 Sebastian York and Kit Swann did a great job in this narration. Sebastian has a deep, rich voice that could alternate between dominate, teasing, and sweet. I absolutely cracked up at his portrayal of Grady’s 3 year old son’s drama king persona. Kit Swann was wonderful as Addison. She has a medium pitch voice that is warm and expressive. I felt the emotions as she voiced Addison: nervousness and anxiety as she walked a new path, the love and devotion she had for her daughter, and the comfort and peace she found with Grady.

Tropes: taboo, forbidden, age gap, guardian x ward, virgin FMC

📖 Oh helloooo daddy Cal! This was my first QB Tyler book and I honestly have no clue why it took me this long. I love how QB wrote a taboo book with high heat, but also made it feel believable, like this could have happened. They felt like real people and their love felt very real. Maddie is undeniably younger than Cal and was immature at times, but her connection to Cal grew from that of a child to that of a woman. Seeing how they both struggled with their emotions and physical responses to each other was captivating. I can’t wait to dive into QB’s backlist!

🎧 This audio was really enjoyable! Christian is fun to listen to.
Addison was great in this audio! She has a higher pitch female voice with a light timbre. She had impressive range from her performance as a bubbly Maddie as a young girl to a broody Cal! Christian has a medium pitch male voice with a slightly raspy quality and a very natural speech pattern. He expresses emotion with his voice SO we’ll — it’s almost like I can visualize an imaginary face saying these things and making facial expressions and hand motions as he’s talking.

Listening speed: 1.7x

Tropes: accidental marriage turned marriage of (in)convenience, football, forced proximity, sharing is caring, falling for your wife/husband

📖 Ok, so I have been waiting out the audio for this one and it was NOT a mistake (more on audio below), but OMG I saw everyone laughing so hard when this first came out and waiting was hard. And I DIED laughing multiple times. Eleanor is one funny B! She gets herself into some wild antics but also just rolls with it and slings some seriously good one liners, and also has about a million more in her internal monologue that had me rolling. I was a little worried going in I might not like the sharing to MF situation, but I totally love how Trilina handled this! I also thought this might be just fun and smutty without a lot of emotional connection, and would have been pretty damn happy with that but was super stoked to love the romance aspect as well. If you want some seriously HOT spice, to get stomach cramps from laughing, and to fall for Crew and his Wildcard while they fall for each other after accidentally getting married, pick this up!!

🎧 DEAR AUDIOBOOK GODS, thank you for bringing this goodness to my ears. I have been on a Samantha Brentmoor kick for a hot minute here, and she absolutely slayed as Eleanor! She pulled off Eleanor’s humor and sass incredibly well! Jacob Morgan is one of my top fav male voices, he just never lets me down and this was no different! He was HOT HOT HOT as Crew. Lee Samuels voiced Nate, Teddy Hamilton voiced TJ, and Alexis Paige voiced Millie. I loved the vocal variety in the performance with Jacob’s straight up cool and confident sex appeal; Lee’s deeper, growlier voice; and Teddy’s more playful vibe. Alexis brought in a great performance as the bestie too! This is a shorter one if you listen at faster speeds, and you will enjoy it the whole way through!!

Tropes: small town, childhood best friends to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity, it’s always been you

📖 I am surprised and delighted to say that this is my favorite of the series so far! I absolutely fell in love with Finn and Reese and their story. Their absolute devotion to each other and their long history filled with so many memories together was beautiful.
And of course, the Reynolds fam made many appearances, as did the Reynolds singling group chat lol! I am going to be so sad to see this series end, but I also can’t wait for Cage’s HEA!

🎧 Maxine and Jacob were great in this! Jacob Morgan slays anything he does, and he was perfection in this as Finn. Finn’s whole vibe is laid back, not a care in the world, other than Reese — and Jacob Morgan can pull that off so well. He can talk dirty to you as Finn one minute and be speaking as a 5 year old girl the next and be equally as believable! Maxine was also really good as Reese! She expresses emotion well and has a nice range! She clearly indicates her narrator voice versus her speaking voice.

Narration type: Dual
Standard length: 8:23

Tropes: dark, mafia, ex-military, frenemies to lovers, touch her and ☠️, possessive MMC x feisty FMC

📖 This was my first Luna Mason book, and I was definitely able to start on book 2 but I’m itching to go back and hit up book 1 now. Grayson is such a great MMC — he’s tough, but a bit broken, and has sworn off love and really anything more than a one night stand after a brutal betrayal. Then Maddie enters the chat and changes everything for him. He goes from wild tiger to purring house cat, but don’t worry, he’s still FERAL for her 🥵
The plot in this one was action packed and really enjoyable! I’m looking forward to Luca’s story in book 3.

🎧 Maxine and Robert did an excellent job with the narration in this one. I would describe Maxine’s voice as medium to deep in pitch (for a female) with a smooth timbre. She paces the dialogue really well with natural pauses and makes clear transitions from narrator voice to speaking voice. Her emotional expression and male speaking voice was on point too.
I would describe Robert’s voice as medium to deep in pitch (for a male) with a rich, smooth timbre. He has a very natural sounding cadence and modulates his voice to clearly indicate narrator voice vs MMC speaking voice vs other speaking voices. All around fantastic narration!
