Bond Vs Trump
Revisado: 02-05-25
Are you mad about J6 and Donald Trump? How about a cheap revenge novel starring James Bond. A cartoonish Trump analogue has arrived to steal the selection of King Charles after legitimate and fair divine right chooses him to succeed Elizabeth to the throne. Over an hour of the book is Bond undercover at a Trump rally, where the author scandalizes and mischaracterizes populist and conservative thought as Blofeld at his best, with Bond's best retort being 'not if I can help it!' The author ironically lacks any self awareness of the symbolism of James Bond, the importance of British strength and identity on the world stage. Bond is England's cold war Captain America but here he comes off as a hitman for the BBC rather than MI6. The book also contains barely concealed ads for the Range Rover Defender, which is probably how the author got paid since proceeds for the book all go into the deep pockets of big British government. Ian Fleming would hate it, and this book makes even less sense if you just finished Casino Royale. It does contain humor though, like when Bond tells a commando to "blow up the mainframes" or when he asks a lethal mercenary whether or not she knows how to use a Glock 17, the gun Americans receive for free when they apply for a driver's license. Speaking of guns, we're to believe that Charles' protective detail doesn't carry handguns, and all the danger hinges on Discount Rosa Klebb, introduced and vanquished on the same page. Bond could make Britain great again, but instead he embraces the decline. It's not timely or provocative, just a cheap ripoff of another country's important events that reminds us how unimportant the island country is these days.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

King blew it
Revisado: 10-22-19
Mary Sue character and barely present law man take on unscary X-Files type shadow government figures who slap people around and petulantly tell one another to shut up in totally incompetent conspiracy. Narrator is worst I've ever heard, especially when doing female or children or southern characters. Skip this one, even Firestarter is better. -Avid King fan

Andy McGee and Vicky Tomlinson participated in a drug experiment run by a veiled government agency known as The Shop. One year later, they marry. Two years later, their little girl, Charlie, sets her teddy bear on fire by simply staring at it. Now that Charlie is eight, she doesn't start fires anymore. Her parents have taught her to control her pyrokinesis, the ability to set anything - toys, clothes, even people - aflame. But The Shop knows about and wants this pigtailed "ultimate weapon".

Falls Short of Classic Status
Revisado: 02-12-19
This story has been copied and frankly done better over the years, in the comic book genre or shows like The X-Files. With so many other King greats, you should only pick up this one to complete your collection, as this one's near the bottom on many rankings. This recording has a great narrator but some technical problems, is it cuts out briefly now and then, but doesn't impede understanding of the oddly paced story.

cool story poorly executed
Revisado: 02-27-18
Cox has a great imagination and his Star Trek bona fides are unquestionable, but he belabors every leg of this story with overwrought narration, and dialogue which fails to advance the plot.

Solid Reacher Story
Revisado: 11-21-17
...But something's lacking. Kept feeling like I was waiting for the real story to start, the real intrigue. But it gets resolved fairly early-- except at the end, one plot point is still dangling as Reacher is lost to sight, probably never to be resolved.

Historia
Four chiller novellas set to keep listeners awake long after bedtime. One Past Midnight: "The Langoliers" takes a red-eye flight from LA to Boston into a most unfriendly sky. Only 11 passengers survive, but landing in an eerily empty world makes them wish they hadn't. Something's waiting for them, you see.

Hit and miss
Revisado: 08-07-17
Four short stories of varying quality. The Langoliers is sort of a modern star trek story. Secret Window, Secret Garden was the best by far, which explains why it was made into a movie. Library Policeman is okay, but it's villain, although horrible, is pretty Ill defined. Sun Dog pretty much made no sense and was a lot of fluff. Great performances all around.

this is my first of many Steven King novels. I have to say I'm impressed by James Franco. he really does have acting chops. You wouldn't know it from some of the bad movies he makes but he made this fantastic story twice as good. I highly recommend.

Historia
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

The commies always sacrifice the individual for the good of the state. Is it really so different when the west sacrifices one for the good of the people? we're better than them, yes, but by how much?
