Historia
Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae. The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned. When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment. Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

Great entry to a journey
Revisado: 09-19-24
I sort of hated the narration. The voice actors are good have great pacing but the voices they used for the characters was really distracting and detracted from the story in my opinion. I will for sure buy the books to continue the series.
Storyline: for a first book of a series I felt like the pacing was wonderful. It kept me interested and wanting to read more. The characters are some similar types of characters any fan of romantacy will recognize and for the most part stayed true to some stereotypes. (Brooding and mysterious bad guy MMC, Surprisingly cunning, more powerful than she knows and independent FMC). Some common tropes play out but not to the detriment of the story they are well placed and some small deviations.
All in all worth a read for your next slightly spicy romantacy.

After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.

“I have loved more deeply than a killer like yourself could ever dream” -PB
Revisado: 08-20-24
Beautiful story of a deep everlasting type of love. Fun, heartwarming, close small town found family vibe. Loved the type of relationship the couple eased into and am so in love with the idea of a town like Wakan. I also fell in love with the impact that each person can have and how genuine authenticity can bring about true change.

Wanted to love it
Revisado: 01-22-24
I’m split on my review. There are some parts of the book that I loved the interaction with other characters and it felt like there would be more to the story that made it interesting. However I think the main character was too much in her head for us to explore any potential character building or world building from anyone else. Understanding that the main character’s narrative is a product of her upbringing and her own struggles it still felt like it was too much for her to both experience something and then have to sit through her inner monologue about what she experienced.
Outside of that, the big reveal seemed rushed and could have been so interesting earlier in the book.
Semi spoiler ahead:
I kept thinking we were going to find out there was more happening than there actually was. Maybe I missed something but I felt like there was a huge missed opportunity in a lot of the plot. At least the age gap was okay between the main couple but it still felt like the power dynamic was a little much considering the FMC was inexperienced (as she so often narrated feeling). All in all I liked the partially dark romance. I wouldn’t say it mets that definition entirely but some dark concept are danced around.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

The only thing I didn’t love about this book was that I did not realize it is a part of a five book set which the second doesn’t release for another four months.

Historia
I would like to say we were old lovers. That once upon a time he was my everything, and I was his, but that would be a lie. He may have been mine, but I wasn’t his. I was his sister’s annoying little friend who he didn’t even know was in love with him. Years later, after seeing him again for the first time, nothing has changed. Except now, he notices me, and I will do everything in my power to avoid him. Because Falcon is the most conceited man on this planet, and because when he looks at me with steel eyes, my heart still misses a beat.

Could have been so good
Revisado: 03-14-23
I wanted to love Falcons book. Admittedly the male narrator played a huge part I. My hatred for this book. I think it was their voices for any female character that sounds just horrible. The story itself really could have been amazing but was just missing any character development. It felt like it never really got my buy in and then felt ridiculously rushed.

Summer time fun
Revisado: 07-28-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to a friend who is looking for something light and fun. There is not much substance, but I really think that speaks to the world we are looking at.
What does Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great tone and inflection that bring out a side to the characters I may have interpreted differently.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it was really easy to listen to back and forth from work to take my mind off of the day, but I will say I didn't have any trouble turning it off to go in the house once I got home.
Any additional comments?
Super light and fun read, reminds me of something trashy that is fun to read at the beach. I wanted to know more at the end which is always a good sign I have been suckered in to a story!

Historia
If Sadie Turner is good at anything, it’s putting stuff in order. So when she finds her “perfect” life in disarray, she hopes a summer vacation at her aunt’s lake house will help her piece it back together. She wants to relax, reboot, and heal the wounds left by her cheating ex-husband. And that requires time away from men. All men. Or so she thinks.

Underwhelming -bordering time wasting
Revisado: 04-09-15
Would you try another book from Tracy Brogan and/or Lori Reyes?
I can't tell if I didn't like the book or if I didn't like the preformer. I wouldn't be quick to try another book from this author. I really disliked the main character, so I might try another Tracy Brogan just to see if it was the character I didn't like and not her writing.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I just purchased Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, so I will be giving that a go next.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lori Reyes’s performances?
No, I am curious actually to see if it was her performance that I hated or the characters of the book that I didn't buy into. I think that her portrayal of all of the main characters ruined the book for me. I hated the overexaggerated flaymboyancey of the main characters cousin and the horrible high pitched portrayal of her wacky aunt. I love both of the characters, but the voices for them and the inntonation of 'their' voices I think really underminded the way they were written.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Crazy Little Thing?
The scene where Sadie runs off after their post dinner prelude on the first date. I thought the author may have been trying to portray how unsure she was about herself, or how uncomfertable Sadie is getting back into the dating scene, but I hated how it was done.
Any additional comments?
I had a real problem with the main character. For some reason I didn't find her relatable at all. Maybe I see some of her flaws a little to critically. I think the main piece I took issue with was how powerless she made herself. I get that after her divorce she would need to work on her empowerment and trust issues, but I found her "flaws" to be so dramatically portrayed that it almost seemed dishonest and unnatural.
