Historia
1989, Lamesa, Texas. A small west Texas town driven by oil and cotton—and a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. So it goes for Tolly Driver, a good kid with more potential than application, seventeen, and about to be cursed to kill for revenge. Here Stephen Graham Jones explores the Texas he grew up in, and shared sense of unfairness of being on the outside through the slasher horror Jones loves, but from the perspective of the killer, Tolly, writing his own autobiography. Find yourself rooting for a killer in this summer teen movie of a novel gone full blood-curdling tragic.

Sorrowful Horror Tale
Revisado: 09-22-24
I knew the author had done his job when I cried for the slasher. The hope that he would somehow rise above it all held firm. The love was there in the midst of the horror. Michael Crouch’s narration of Tolly was dead-on perfect…all West Texas accent and awkward teenage angst.

What a sweet story about family and belonging! Michael Crouch is magnificent as Frank, and all the other characters. TR the turtle might have been my favorite but Crouch’s narration made them all endearing.

Historia
This is the story of Bull Meecham, the epitome of the Marine officer. Demanding, authoritarian, as tough a disciplinarian at home as at the base, Bull is a difficult man to please, and even harder to love. This is also the story of Ben Meecham, Bull’s oldest son. A gifted athlete whose best never satisfies his father, Ben must balance his own ambition with his father’s expectations – and decide what course he will chart for himself and what kind of man he will become.

The Great Storyteller
Revisado: 03-17-23
Pat Conroy is one of my favorite authors, and only knowing the screen version of The Great Santini I was grateful for Michael Crouch’s expert narration. He brought Conroy’s complicated characters to life. I could feel the angst every time Bull Meechum entered the room, Yet when he met his end, I wept. Crouch fleshed out each character but Ben was the one who touched me as I heard the confusion and heartache of his troubled family.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Never knowing his parents, eleven-year-old Stewie Little and his brother have been raised on a farm by their older sister. Stewie steadfastly tends the chickens left by his beloved late grandmother. And every day Stewie goes door to door selling fresh eggs from his wagon—a routine with a surprise just around the corner. It’s his new customer, Marilyn. She’s prickly and guarded, yet comfortably familiar—she reminds the grieving Stewie so much of the grandmother he misses more than he can express.

Will brings love and concern for others out of his own grief. The author uniquely tells a poignant story in 100 short chapters…concise and beautifully to the point. Michael Crouch embodies his characters, and Will is no exception. You can hear the sadness and sweetness of Will in Michael’s voice. And…you care and root for him as he navigates his new world, and hope that his next batch of cornbread is a good one!

Historia
A powerful, moving memoir - and a practical guide to healing - written by Dr. Edith Eva Eger, an eminent psychologist whose own experiences as a Holocaust survivor help her treat patients and allow them to escape the prisons of their own minds. The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.

A Classic of Inspiration
Revisado: 03-17-20
This is my second reading of this remarkable book by Dr. Eger I read The Choice a year ago, and was inspired by her story and her words. After being privileged to hear Dr. Eger speak recently in Texas, I decided to revisit the book by listening to Tovah Feldshuh’s narration. Her interpretation and her excellent Hungarian accent brought me to the core of the darkness of Auschwitz and to the light of Edie’s strength and courage. This is a classic when one needs inspiration. I will read it again and again.

Rebecca Makkai is a brilliant storyteller, and I didn't want her sad, haunting story of the effects of the AIDS crisis to end. Michael Crouch's expert narration deserves an award. He inhabited every character, and flawlessly went from one to the another. This beautiful novel, and Michael Crouch's performance will stay with me for a long time.

Revisado: 08-07-17
Lilac Girls is an inspiring story into the lives of courageous women. I felt like I was walking with them through every heartache and hardship but also their hope for the future. All 3 narrators were exceptional, and the author Martha Hall Kelly has a wonderful voice of her own. And yes Ms Kelly you have inspired to find out more, and I will never forget these women. Thank you.
