Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

What a beautiful book!
Revisado: 02-07-24
It was one of those books that I didn't want to finish. I felt like I knew and cared about the characters and their world. It's funny, but the word "professional" kept popping into my head. It seems like books, movie and TV these days are written by people who churn out a story line only to deliver their messages which are often political. It's like they just want to hear themselves talk. It's so boring. This book was written by someone who knows how to develop characters and storylines and how to keep the reader engaged throughout. Loved it.
Also, the narration was wonderful!

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Usually love Andy Weir, but not this.

So, so, so much description & explanation about every tech product and chemical process. It just got boring.
In Project Hail Mary there was also a great relationship with the alien. it kept you wondering what was going to happen next.
Full disclosure, I got about halfway and then gave up.
Too bad...

Historia
Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener's magnificent saga of the West is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America's past, the story of Colorado - the Centennial State - is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; and the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 04-16-23
I loved this book.
This is old-fashioned storytelling.
The characters are so well-developed and engaging that I was sad to leave them when the time came.
I'm going to choose another Michener book right now.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Tiresome
Revisado: 12-20-22
The listening sample was cute and smart. The reviews were strong and I really wanted an engaging book to get me through Covid. But when a character from the 60s complains she can't enjoy the Mikado because the characters were white, I couldn't help rolling my eyes. In the 60s, if casting was racially correct, that was great. If not, no one decided that they couldn't enjoy the song, or play or artwork.
This sort of attitude pervades every page. It's just so boring.

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.
