Historia
After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim. Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

Funny and Not Quite Boring
Revisado: 08-08-23
Narration is great. That part is easy. Johnathan McClain does a fabulous job, despite the slightly slow pace. Our main character is dynamic and funny. His interactions with the demon are really enjoyable.
But the story is slow. It isn't a long book but it takes the majority of the time for Jim to get to where he's going. And every character we meet after that feels stiff and not well thought out.
There is just enough action and humor to make it worth it though. And in the end it picks up pace. I am invested in the story now. And I look forward to the next one.

Historia
It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the pet store for some cat food, but the universe had other plans for Florence Valentine. Good for nothing kids and some annoying store employees were giving her a hard time, and then things got worse when she was killed by a delivery truck. Instead of angels, pearly gates, and eternal rewards, a voice in her head keeps telling her that she’s become a dungeon core, whatever that is.

I Could Not Stop Listening
Revisado: 04-29-23
I finished the entire trilogy in about a week. I was slightly skeptical at first, as our MC is a stereotypical old lady. But it's an amusing clash of the character and her predicament, as well as a steady amount of character development throughout all three books. Later in the series we meet more characters that create a wonderful dynamic.
Andrea Parsneau does and excellent job. She is one of the best narrators I've heard. One thing, though, is the voice used for the System. It is high pitched and exaggerated. This becomes grating when there is so much information given. It is maddening.
Everything else is well worth it. 10/10. Would listen again.

Historia
There are still countless tales of the Scythedom to tell. Centuries passed between the Thunderhead cradling humanity and Scythe Goddard trying to turn it upside down. For years humans lived in a world without hunger, disease, or death with Scythes as the living instruments of population control. Neal Shusterman—along with collaborators David Yoon, Jarrod Shusterman, Sofía Lapuente, Michael H. Payne, Michelle Knowlden, and Joelle Shusterman—returns to the world throughout the timeline of the Arc of a Scythe series.

Good, but Disjointed Short Stories
Revisado: 04-22-23
This is less of an addition to the story, and more of a series of what could have been interludes throughout the books. Some of the stories are pretty good, while others are forgettable. It's good to know what was going on with certain side characters during the events of the series. And there were some interesting origin stories. But a couple of the narrators were difficult to listen to. Overall though, it was a nice listen.

Ever wonder what happened to the Isekai’d gamer who found himself incarnated into the overweight body of a LitRPG farmer, only to spit in the face of destiny and earn more money and experience than anyone ever dreamed possible? Fairytales would have you believe he lived happily ever after, but life doesn’t always match up to fairytale endings. Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer turned clerical error, has now become a thorn in the vindictive Northern Regent’s side.

Historia
Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time. So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change. After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

I Couldn't Get Very Far
Revisado: 02-27-23
This book seems good, and feels like it has the potential to be great. But I couldn't even make it an hour in. The narrator does great. But the voices of the dragon and the System (I assume it's called the System) both echo. I want ahead to see if they stopped, but they didn't. It's distracting. My own preferences kept me from continuing what is likely really good story.

Predictable and Unmemorable
Revisado: 02-27-23
It's YA sci-fi. I didn't expect anything else. The narration was not terrible. The story was flat, and the characters flatter. I finished only to find out what happened.

Historia
He knew it was a dumb stunt from the start. A midnight run through a cemetery to impress a couple of girls isn't the stuff of legend, but Alex Carlisle longs to escape the crushing mediocrity of life after high school. Then, he stumbles upon the ritual, the cultists, and two bound and bloodied women. Alex intervenes, and the ritual blows up in his face, leaving him bound to them both: Rachel and Lorelei, an angel and a succubus.

WOW
Revisado: 10-22-22
Very entertaining. Funny with a great storyline. Even the secondary characters are well thought out. Tess Irondale did an excellent job with voices, tones, and fluctuations. Plenty of erotic scenes, but there's a warning in the summary for a reason. Decent pacing and well-timed innuendos.I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I think I'll wait a bit before listening to the next one.

Historia
To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him.

Triggering
Revisado: 06-28-22
This book can be quite triggering.
It takes time to get used to the narration, which is very exaggerated. And the shrill voice of the five year old, whose perspective we get throughout the book, is almost headache inducing.
The story, though, is great. Along with it's pacing and characters. The author does a good job of capturing the innocent view of a small child.
Overall, good book. I do not recommend it if you are triggered by self harm, attempted suicide, imprisonment, rape, trauma, and/or anything along these lines.

Slight Disappointment
Revisado: 05-27-22
I was surprised to find that this book is composed entirely of letters between the two main characters. It's an interesting way to tell the story but not ideal. It seems to continuously switch from first person to second person, then back again, as they tell each other things despite the other having been present. I assume this is for the benefit of the audience but it's partially confusing, and partially annoying.
The narrators did well and the story is quite good. The only downside is the way the story is told.

Takes Quite a Bit of Focus
Revisado: 05-22-22
I often multitask while listening to audiobooks. With this duology, it is difficult to keep track of the plot unless you're completely focused on it. The progress is slow as well. This is a good story, though, and has great narration.
