Fabulous book - kept me on the edge of my seat
Revisado: 02-25-18
Would you listen to Breakthrough again? Why?
As a performance, Scott Brick does an awesome job. As a story, I really enjoyed this book all the way through. The author does an outstanding job of keeping the reader interested by bouncing from different story segments and developing the characters to make the reader interested in what happens to them.
keep in mind that this is science fiction with some far-fetched ideas at times -- but that's why I love this genre. Very creative ideas and I am looking forward to reading the further books in this sequence.
What other book might you compare Breakthrough to and why?
This reminded me of a blend between Clive Custler and Michael Crichton, so if you enjoy either of those authors -- you should really enjoy this one.
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
I have listened to many, many of his books over the years and he does a great job with different voices for the characters. He is very enjoyable to listen to.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next

A very enjoyable listen
Revisado: 04-03-08
I actually enjoyed the characters and disagree with a previous reviewer who thought they were two dimensional. There are certainly some events that were too coincidental but I really enjoyed listening to the story and all of the different threads going on. The mystery kept me listening and I never felt bored.
I also enjoyed the scientific explorations and explanations.

Really great right up to the ending
Revisado: 07-07-07
This was a compelling story that kept my attention all the way through the book. The character development was excellent. The narration was also excellent.
But when I got towards the end of the book, I was really, really disappointed with the ending. It was as if he ran out of time and had to finish quickly. Very, very weak ending.

I did not know what to expect but I really enjoyed this story. The characterization and storyline kept me wanting to listen to more. I especially liked the mixture of the science with the fictional story.

Some people are too picky -- This is a must
Revisado: 09-01-05
I think some people are just too hard to please. I really enjoyed DaVinci Code because of the fast-paced suspense and the subject matter. I enjoyed this book for the same reason - maybe more because of the technology topic. I have listened to over 70 audio books and this is one of the most enjoyable I have heard -- It was difficult to put down. Sure, the heros get lucky a bunch through fortuitous events-- but what's a thriller without them -- Think James Bond movies.
The narrator sounds were sometimes noticeable, but not to the extent that it bothered me. I probably would not have thought about them had others not made a big deal of them.

Don't bother with this one
Revisado: 07-16-05
I am 20 mins away from finishing and decided to look back at the reviews. I am wondering now why I downloaded it in the first place. I recall reading the narrative and thinking it sounded interesting, but I must have skipped the reviews, which are all accurate.
I actually enjoyed most of the beginning of the book -- tolerating the syrupy, romantic diversions. There were a lot of seemingly unrelated events and it was interesting to find out how they came together. However, about six hours into it I suddenly realized how bad the dialog was and how tedious and unbelievable it had become. It was like the author ran out of ideas but had to add length to the story. There were some very, very unbelievable plot points toward the end but by then I was almost finished so I am plowing through it.
For the Sheldon fans, maybe the abbriged version would be better.

Mixed Feelings - Some Good and Some Boring
Revisado: 06-25-05
I have very mixed feelings about my enjoyment of this listen. The story line was very imaginitive and I liked being surprised as the author slowly unveiled the mystery of the story. There were very interesting parts. But my problem is that in between the key plot points, there was a lot of very boring parts. It's almost as if the author stretched a very good short story into a novel by adding a lot of filler. I am not sure whether I will try the sequel.

An enjoyable look into our past
Revisado: 02-29-04
I decided to try this "book" since it is much shorter than the more general History version by this same author. I have always been interested in our history but could never deal with the dry, educational texts. The question and answer format of this audio book was very enjoyable. The author bounces between historical people (e.g. Washington, Lincoln, Patrick Henry, etc.), events (e.g. Revolutionary war, Civil War, prohibition, etc.), and other short topics. It became less interesting as he moved into more recent events, but overall it was well worth the listen.

One of the best books I have ever
Revisado: 12-09-03
This book was simply one of the very best I have ever enjoyed. I listened to it in a different format (tape series) before I was an Audible member, but the book itself was outstanding. The combination of history in the medevil times and the aspect of time travel was riveting. I cannot recommend it enough.
