Historia
Charlotte Kraus would follow Angelika Haas anywhere. Which is how she finds herself in an underground club one Friday night the summer before World War II, dancing to contraband American jazz and swing music, suddenly feeling that anything might be possible. Unable to resist the allure of sharing this secret with Geli, Charlie returns to the club again and again, despite the dangers of breaking the Nazi Party’s rules. Soon, terrified by the tightening vise of Hitler’s power, Charlie and the other Swingjugend are drawn to larger and larger acts of rebellion.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

I’ve struggled with a fear of death for all my life. A year ago I couldn’t have even read the description of this book without having a panic attack. I’ve been working on it in counseling for a while and decided to challenge myself by reading this. It was absolutely beautiful and I’m glad that I did because not only was it an amazing collection of stories that touched my heart but I think it further helped my anxiety around death and what my beliefs are.

I read this book in just a few days and have already recommended it to everyone I know. Insightful and beautiful! This book had me yelling aloud and sent me through a wave of emotions. I was looking for a book on resilience and not only is this the best thing I could have read by someone who truly has the right to speak in it but it’s become a favorite and I plan to buy multiple appear copies so I can re-read, annotate, and have a few copies extra because I know I will be giving them away.

Historia
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

I couldn’t stop listening. Even snuck in a bit while working when I could. She goes over some hard topics but has a way of making you laugh through the entire thing. Incredible

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.
