Classic book, that is much better than the Disney
Revisado: 01-13-19
This is an amazing book. I listened to this with my daughter numerous times. It's a way different story than what you are used to with Disney. I would listen to this if I didn't have kids, but it's so wonderful to listen to this with your child.

Best one in the series
Revisado: 01-13-19
If you are going to only read or listen to one of the 3, this is the one. The 3rd one is annoying, and mostly sucks. This one is great, and really enjoyed it.

People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of sixty, which one of us would end up with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and Beverly Hills, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f**king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time.

Historia
Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

Kind of annoying and predictable
Revisado: 01-13-19
This is only worth listening to if you read the previous two books in the series. It was really hard to finish. Follett is extremely predictable, and formulaic. If you aren't sucked in to the series, I wouldn't recommend this book by itself.

Essential Clancy
Revisado: 05-15-17
This has some of the best character development, and it's addictive. I love this book, and it's in my top 3 in the series! The narration is not as good as the LDP narrations, but it's good. You don't know Clancy, if you don't know Rainbow Six!

If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork - the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time - warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice & Fire. This volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's Game of Thrones.

As good as any of the books in the series!
Revisado: 03-25-17
This is essential if you are a fan of GRRM. This is a chronicle of the start of the world through the start of book 1. Aside from filling in a lot of holes, it accounts for the history of the Targaryen family, which could be a great book in itself. I have read on kindle, and listened to this, and I'll tell you right now that Roy Dotrice makes any book better. I love this book. Woo!!!!

This is one of my favorite books, and I have read it in paperback, then on kindle, and have listened to it. Bourdain is obviously a great narrator, as evidenced by his TV career. The audio book narration is awesome. I will probably listen to this again, because it really is a fun story to listen to.

Outstanding historical fiction
Revisado: 03-25-17
It's an great account and perspective on WWII from the perspectives of a few families, continued from the first book. Following the family lineage and story is very interesting, but it's so predictable, like all of Follett's work. I like that it's dramatic, but if you have read any of his other books, the fiction part is very predictable, and some times it drags. Overall though, it is very interesting and worth the time.

Big League City is the fascinating story behind that transformative moment when The Thunder came to Oklahoma City, elevating it to a big league city. David Holt's position as the Mayor's assistant gave him a unique opportunity to observe how a singular series of serendipitous events paired with the stubborn commitment of his sports minded boss, the Mayor, and the remarkably unified effort of a group of perceptive investors, community leaders and city staff brought the dream of NBA basketball to Oklahoma City.

An instant classic & a must read!
Revisado: 09-11-16
This is a very quick read, and it covers the bridge between politics and sports. The masterful David Holt, presently a State Senator, but at the time of moving the Sonics to OKC was the Chief of Staff to the Mayor. His insight on the process of attracting, and moving a Big League team to a city is very interesting. There are a lot of aspects you would never think of, but find very interesting. Also, the financial conservationism of the city is something you often do not see any more. If you find the business process of sports interesting at all, and if you like politics, you will love this book!
Also, the author is the narrator. It is brilliant. You would think that David Holt did narration as his day job. He must have been in theater at some point. It is very easy to listen to, and I highly recommend it. I actually own this book in hard copy, kindle, and on audible. I can't wait for David's next book!

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Kind of long, but worth finishing it
Revisado: 09-11-16
I had to take breaks while listening to this book. The middle of the book really dragged on, and there are a lot of repeating story lines. It is a very interesting story and you really do care about the characters, and become vested in the story. I can visualize the fictitious city of King's Bridge. If it gets too long for you, just take a break and pick it up again. It is worth buying and listening to in full.
Also, the author's ability to interlace fiction into history is amazing. I am a big fan of the author and his style. Again, the only down side is the repeating story lines. There is always some mean spirited religious figure constantly picking fights with a handful of civilians. He probably could have cut 3 or 4 of these sequences out of the book.
