Panoply is a small efficient police force, dedicated to maintaining the rule of democracy among the ten thousand disparate city-states orbiting the planet Yellowstone. Ingvar Tench was one of Panoply's most experienced operatives. So why did she walk alone and unarmed into a habitat with a vicious grudge against her organization? As his colleagues pick up the pieces following her death, Prefect Tom Dreyfus must face his conscience.

A little who done it
Revisado: 06-15-24
Narrator John Lee does another spectacular job with The Dreyfuss Emergency series. The emotion from a tired yet knowing Tom Dreyfuss and the team at Panoply is present throughout the reading, and the composition for new characters was excellent. Well done😀 Hachette Audio!
The story of our team fighting for good continues on! A ton of detail and action goes with the plot that carries you to many new habitats in the Glitter Band. Strap in for plenty of wholesome goodness out of Al Reynolds.

Historia
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Another smooth ride thru Alt-reality from Riddle
Revisado: 08-30-23
If your search history includes questions about CERN and the LHC, this is the book for you! Riddle slaps again with a story set in today's real world, and takes the characters into the next decade or so with applied physics and the unknown possibilities of quantum theory.
There are many memorable moments, but my favorite is walking through the world war II timeline at the National Mall. There are key moments over that decade that appeared to steer the outcome of the war. I didn't know the origin of DARPA until reading the explanation in this book.
The narrator does very well to immerse the listener into the story with six or seven different tones and accents whole reading the novel. The characters experience a broad range of emotions, and it's hard to imagine those emotions and feelings without additional context not conveyed in the words on the pages.
For instance, Nora and Maria could be perceived to be condescending and combative when speaking, but we hear fear and apprehension. Also, there are many instances of narration where the explanation is provided from characters who are experts in their fields, and thus speak as an educator would.

Myers kills it with these characters. More plz
Revisado: 05-10-23
The book is exceptional. Reynolds delivers with an intricate tale about passion and mission and purpose. The inner struggles which all people in medical professions face are relatable, but the narration pulls you into this character.
The range which Myers covers includes a Spanish Colonel, a French temptress, an Eastern European wealthy businessman and more!

Historia
For 30 years, a tiny band of humans has been sheltering in the caverns of an airless, crater-pocked world called Michaelmas. Beyond their solar system lie the ruins of human interstellar civilization, stalked by a ruthless, infinitely patient cybernetic entity determined to root out the last few bands of survivors. One man has guided the people of Michaelmas through the hardest of times and given them hope against the wolves: Miguel de Ruyter.

Revisado: 07-06-22
Which is why we read AR and his books based in the RS universe! John Lee completes another masterpiece, and he brings brand new characters to life with slightly familiar accents.
The fully baked nature of the next story in the RS universe settles upon a force of nature that requires the use of findings from Yellowstone, Pattern Jugglers, and our familiar friends that defy time and space in their survival. If you've followed Reynolds through the series, you don't want to miss this one!

A WoW aged action thriller you will love
Revisado: 10-03-19
Stephenson didn't hold back words, detail, and thick plot twists at all. This was an epic, clad with some really modern themes that fit perfectly in early 21st century lore.
The narration was magnificent, with many characters of various ethnicities involved. Many accolades to Malcolm Hillgartner there.
The climax was a bit too long, but so was the plot building, and, well, everything else you'd expect from NS.
I'm glad I beared with it and finished it. marathon audiobook here folks!

Another great story from the Master!
Revisado: 06-12-19
Clare isn't whispering near as much in this one, thankfully!
I love that the main character / narrator switched from Arafura to Adrana. Not for any reason but to view the former's actions in this story from the outside. I think this was a great choice of Mr Reynolds.
The story of the Ness sisters hits on all fronts. We have us versus them, Prozer playing solo, and an amazing character in Mr Glimery. The sucking of saliva in his parts could not have been described in the books, so I'm lead to believe the voice actress and Alastair/ production team had a say in how those parts were vocalized. Great job!
Overall, the story was great, and I really look forward to another one with the crew of the Night Jammer, Revenger.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

We are finally told about the Dark Forest theory
Revisado: 05-14-19
I honestly feel that Liu and Luo Ji are the same. I never have a heard a more thorough explanation of a theory of society than The Dark Forest. Its so easy to grasp, and it's an accurate assessment for what future extraterrestrial cultures are going to be like.
The sophons from book 1, The Three Body Problem, are fantastic 11 dimensional objects that really are the main antagonists of the story. I felt encouraged because while the story from book 1 completes in a timely fashion, I wanted more from the Sophons. Job done!
Now, like the title of this review suggests, most of the book is talking about what Trisolaris is up to and what the Wallfacers are doing and what the SFJC has to say about this all 200 years in the future.
This is a long book because it's broken into 3 short-ish parts. Don't feel like you need to consume the whole book. You can take breaks between parts and you won't lose yourself too much. The story takes leaps such that you might be overwhelmed with the new setting and new people, new society structures, etc.
I love this series and can't wait to finish it with book 3. Lets see if Earth and Trisolaris can coexist and even join forces against a new threat!

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.
