Edge of your seat ending! Huge body count, but that's to be expected. Enjoyed it but I am glad that the series has finally wrapped up!

LONG overdue!
Revisado: 04-12-21
Craig asked me to listen to the series, and I said sure thing! I figured that the very least I could do would be to give him a good review.
Well that time has finally arrived.
Even though I finished the four books over a year ago. I know, I absolutely suck!
At first I had a little difficulty getting into the first novel, but that quickly faded as the difficulties and harsh reality of trying to live in Alaska were greatly detailed and explained.
And that is when the state was not hit by a surprise nuclear attack!
The four books detail life in the aftermath of the attack, the consequences of choices and actions, and the mystery behind the attack and how the lower 48 fared.
I learned a great deal about life in Alaska as a result and found the characters to be intriguing and likeable - which is something that can be difficult to achieve time and again.
At times, especially during the final book, I found that I wanted more, to see the adventures to continue with the main characters, but at the same time I have to say that Craig did the right thing and ended it where he did. Sometimes if a series goes on too long it gets not only tedious, but repetitive and downright boring.
Thankfully that is not the case with this series.
Excellent novels and well worth the read or listen, depending on your format!

Great finish!
Revisado: 02-09-21
Finished this free trilogy of novella's by Jonathan Maberry yesterday.
To be frank, I would have liked to have seen it end, and not be set up for future books.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, I really did, but I had hoped that it would be a stand alone novel.
But that is just me. I realize that I am in the VAST minority when it comes to this.
And don't think for a second that I didn't enjoy it. I loved it!
Still, it is very much worth listening to, and when the sequels (or series) is written I WILL be, without a doubt, reading or listening to them.
As always, Jonathan not only entertained, but created what is going to be a very cool universe for a new series.

Things go from bad to worse
Revisado: 01-14-21
Now that the threshold has been opened, infinite worlds have been exposed to the technology involved. A hunter comes through, searching for the creator of this technology, in order to put her to an end for the destruction she has wrought.
Things continue to worsen for the survivors as more and more changes are brought into this world, and survival seems bleak.
Very much looking forward to the final novella!

Historia
Dr. Abby Corman has a bold idea: open a stable doorway between our world and an uninhabited parallel Earth. A new world we can use to mine resources to end poverty, grow enough food to end all hunger, and allow for population growth to end overcrowding. What could be a more noble aspiration for a brilliant young scientist? But the path to hell is paved with good intentions....

What if?
Revisado: 01-14-21
This novella touches on the 'what if' scenario surrounding the discovery of a means to open a gateway to another dimension.
As is always the case, things go horribly wrong, but not because of the science involved, but the ego's of those in control of the project.
Excellent writing and research, as always.

Now the U.S. reels like a drunken giant. The military fought savage battles in the Midwest last winter, driving the aggressors from Denver, but unable to kick them out of the country.

Error right at the beginning!
Revisado: 04-20-17
What did you love best about Invasion: New York?
Excellent action!
What did you like best about this story?
The high-technology used throughout.
Which character – as performed by Mark Ashby – was your favorite?
All had equal merit.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, too long.
Any additional comments?
RESEARCH!
Everything was wonderfully written and seemed quite plausible, HOWEVER, being Canadian, Halifax is in NOVA SCOTIA!
That was a really bad mistake to make on the first page!

There is a legend of the Serpent God... All that remains of its victims is charred human ash - as if she'd been torched from within. What looks like a freak accident to others, Detective Eric Bannon and medical examiner Angelica Hunter have seen before, and they have chased the monster that has spawned in India from where mankind had first encountered its deadly force. They are now truly the only two human beings who have had experience with the Kundalini snake god of ancient India.

Brings back terrifying memories
Revisado: 02-14-14
What made the experience of listening to The Serpentine Fire the most enjoyable?
I’ve never been a fan of horror novels, although this is somewhat hypocritical when it comes right down to it. I enjoy zombie novels, I like books that deal with survival and aliens. But when it comes to ghosts, the paranormal, that sort of thing I’ve never been a big fan.
So it was with some trepidation that I picked up and listened to Robert Walker’s Serptine Fire. I’m a fan of Robert’s mystery novels and I AM a fan of Science fiction. I found the premise behind his book intriguing and I’m always willing to give a book a try.
In fact over the many decades that I have been reading, there have been less than ten novels that I simply could not finish, so I knew that would not be the case with this book.
I started listening to it and after about two hours I nearly stopped and went to listen to something else. It is not that the book was not well written or interesting, quite the opposite. The whole spontaneous human combustion thing creeped me out that bad.
What did you like best about this story?
The history was well written, the characters were captivating and the story itself was chilling to behold.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When I was but a young lad in my first decade of life, I remember seeing a documentary on spontaneous human combustion. To this day I remember how it sent a thrill of terror through my body and that I had trouble sleeping for several days after viewing this documentary. Fear of fire is something that I have always had and always will have.
Robert’s novel re-awoke that short period of night-terrors for me and this is the reason that I nearly put the audio book aside so that I could listen to something else.
