Historia
Carly Castillo has only ever known Fish Village. Her grandmother claims that they descend from the Karankawas, an indigenous Texas people once believed to be extinct, thereby tethering them to Galveston. But as Carly ages, she begins to imagine a life elsewhere, undefined by her family’s history. Meanwhile, her boyfriend and all-star shortstop turned seaman, Jess, treasures the salty, familiar air. He’s gotten chances to leave Galveston for bigger cities with more possibilities. But he didn’t take them then, and he sure as hell won’t now.

Historia
A genius and prophet whose timeless works encapsulate the human condition like no other. A writer who surpassed his contemporaries in vision, originality, and literary mastery. A man who wrote like an angel, putting it all so much better than anyone else. Is this Shakespeare? Well, sort of. But it doesn't tell us the whole truth. So much of what we say about Shakespeare is either not true, or just not relevant.

Really nice collection of essentially stand-alone essays on many Shakespeare plays. Accessible and insightful. Geared towards an intellectually curious general audience, but refreshing for the more specialized reader as well.

Historia
Leslie Odom Jr. burst on the scene in 2015, originating the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway musical phenomenon Hamilton. Since then he has performed for sold-out audiences, sung for the Obamas at the White House, and won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. But before he landed the role of a lifetime in one of the biggest musicals of all time, Odom put in years of hard work as a singer and an actor.

Historia
Though he battled for seven years to marry her, Henry is disenchanted with Anne Boleyn. She has failed to give him a son and her sharp intelligence and audacious will alienate his old friends and the noble families of England. When the discarded Katherine dies in exile from the court, Anne stands starkly exposed, the focus of gossip and malice. At a word from Henry, Thomas Cromwell is ready to bring her down.

Historia
In her famous speech to rouse the English troops staking out Tilbury at the mouth of the Thames during the Spanish Armada's campaign, Queen Elizabeth I is said to have proclaimed, "I may have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king." Whether or not the transcription is accurate, the persistent attribution of this provocative statement to England's most studied and celebrated queen illustrates some of the contradictions and cultural anxieties that dominated the collective consciousness of England.

Excellent performance of one of the most important works on QEI. The writing used is fascinating and accessible, although the last chapter seems to me to lose a bit of steam.

Historia
The Remains of the Day is a profoundly compelling portrait of the perfect English butler and of his fading, insular world in postwar England. At the end of his three decades of service at Darlington Hall, Stevens embarks on a country drive, during which he looks back over his career to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving "a great gentleman". But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness" and graver doubts about his own faith in the man he served.

Historia
Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston star in Shakespeare's tragedy of love and power. As part of BBC Radio 3's celebration of the 450th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare, Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston star in this brand-new production. Lovers, politicians, superstars... Antony & Cleopatra is Shakespeare’s late and epic tragedy of mature love, and the catastrophic fall from grace and power that it brings about.

Excellent even if edited
Revisado: 03-02-19
A great production. Yes, edited, so be forewarned, but most stage productions of early modern plays are edited anyways. There are a few choices on the part of the actors/director that I would change in terms of interpretation, but that’s to be expected. The actors’ voices are easy to tell apart, which is not always the case with other productions (ex. Arkangel, which are also excellent). Overall it’s quite well done.

A Great Performance
Revisado: 01-11-19
This production is an illuminating and moving performance of Shakespeare’s play. The story could be hard to follow or lose some listeners’ interest if it were not so well executed. Tennant’s and Hunter’s performances particularly bring those characters to life. Well done, all around!

Historia
On the planet of Discworld, phrases like "there's a Death in the family" take on a whole new meaning. Young Susan has always suspected that her Grandfather was different, as though all the time he spent riding a white horse and wielding a scythe weren't enough of a giveaway. Now that her worst fears have been confirmed, Susan learns that she's expected to take over the family business when she grows up, even though most people mistake her for the Tooth Fairy.

Great little jaunt in to Discworld. Can stand alone but better if you’ve read Death’s previous books. Lots of jokes for fans of classic rock-n-roll, too. As usual, Mr. Planer does a great job bringing it to life.

It isn't easy, being a teenage pharaoh. You're not allowed to carry money, uninhibited young women peel your grapes for you, everyone thinks you're responsible for making the sun rise and the corn grow, you keep dreaming about seven thin cows and seven fat cows (one of them playing the trombone), and on top of everything else, the Great Pyramid has just exploded because of paracosmic instability.

Not my favorite jaunt into Discworld, but it's a fun read. The story is a nice diversion from the usual suspects, but it stretches itself a little too much at times. Mr. Planer's performance is excellent.
