Good Listen!
Revisado: 07-21-20
Good Listen, I really enjoyed hearing her story and perspective. I thought she did a great job reading it! A great reminder that we don't need alcohol to have a fun time. That said, I do think she makes some questionable claims and gets a little preachy at the end. I don't buy her assessment that we are all just alcoholics in denial; or that "the media" is purposely suppressing information about the negative affects of alcohol because reporters are all drunks in denial who can't face the truth. She also seems to dismiss the idea that some people are more prone to addiction then others, but then in the end reveals that her father was a recovered alcoholic - my understanding is that there is often a genetic component to addiction, and I think to brush that under the rug leaves some important parts out of this discussion. I still recommend it!

Historia
Elaine Sciolino, the former Paris bureau chief of The New York Times, invites us on a tour of her favorite Parisian street, offering an homage to street life and the pleasures of Parisian living. While many cities suffer from the leveling effects of globalization, the rue des Martyrs maintains its distinct allure. On this street, the patron saint of France was beheaded and the Jesuits took their first vows.

I enjoyed learning about this lesser known slice of Paris! Reading voice was just ok. Pacing stalled in some places, but overall informative and fun listen!
