Historia
Fifty Inventions That Shaped the Modern Economy paints an epic picture of change in an intimate way by telling the stories of the tools, people, and ideas that had far-reaching consequences for all of us. From the plough to artificial intelligence, from Gillette's disposable razor to IKEA's Billy bookcase, best-selling author and Financial Times columnist Tim Harford recounts each invention's own curious, surprising, and memorable story.

mildly interesting
Revisado: 09-24-18
This book contains many interesting stories, but also some that I'd heard before or seemed stretched out too much, filler. Some of the choices for 50 inventions seemed like they wouldn't have a place even on a top 100 list. Others were more ideas than inventions. solid but not perfect, 4 stars.

Too Manipulative for Me
Revisado: 08-03-16
in the book cover, you see that the author is not making a natural smile, and the tone of this book struck me the same way. Although caveats are given about helping people and not abusing these techniques, most of them are manipulative tricks. Plus I really didn't care for the slick encouragements given. I felt this author's speaking tone was performing / selling rather than speaking forthrightly. Some good insights remain, but much of it I'd heard before, and there was too much that I could never use myself, car salesman stuff. I prefer a more genuine dialogue in sales. I can still make my case fluently without losing nuance.

Historia
To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

Good but not for committing
Revisado: 03-11-16
great information and well told, but when I'm jogging out driving and can't give it all my attention, I had to rewind a lot. some books help you ground yourself by mentioning the roadmap and context throughout each subject.

Historia
At some point, every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it’s wildly different from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history. With technology, our abilities to connect with and sort through these options are staggering. So why are so many people frustrated?

Entertaining but didn't learn anything
Revisado: 01-07-16
Aziz is stellar at reading this book and it was definitely fun, but it doesn't contain masterful deep insights that surprised me. it was mostly demographic study findings, much of which I could have guessed, and some weird anecdotes that were definitely entertaining but too strange too translate into my personal dating life. This book is work reading but won't change your life.
